Yes, Marshlake.......

I would have a couple of these a day before I was diagnosed as Epileptic in August, and put on Divalproex after having just one Grand Mal...(Aug 2). Now I have them several times/hour, and they drive me nuts...I can have up to 10 in an hour, and this is all since going on the Divalproex. This is scaring me, because in my mind, everytime I have one of these spells, it is damaging.

I would rather be off the medication, have a few spells/day, risk a grand mal, then go through these spells as often as I do daily now.

YES. in no uncertain terms, YES, it IS possible for this to happen. So, you NEED to talk to your doctor, and tell him what is going on. This is an unacceptable side effect. If it doesn't go away in a short period of time (titration does take some time) then SOMETHING HAS to be done.

I KNOW you don't want to talk to your doctor......but you REALLY need to bring this up. i know you're still getting the gluten out of your system, and i commend you for it, but....you DO need to say something to the doctor. Personally, I HATE going up on meds, too. I really, really do....but better safe than sorry..... Please?

Yes, I suppose I should for the time being. I just hate being dumb and the impotence (sorry, I had to mention it) is very bad on my self-esteem at my age. Plus, I'm afraid it will overwork my liver more.

At least

TALK to your doctor.......maybe you can come to an agreement that since you're going back to the gluten free diet that you won't have to up the meds QUITE yet, depending on how it goes, but TALK to him.....OK? THAT part's the most important, I think.........

Besides, if the pills are causing a breathing problem, then you probably need to BACK OFF of them.........or SOMETHING........

lol, thanks for your concern. I think you misunderstood about the "breathing" thing though, correct me if I'm wrong. I was using the word "breathing" to describe objects occasionally looking as though they are breathing. I don't have respiratory problems or anything lol.

I had my doc test my testosterone and estrogen levels and they were normal he said. So, I don't understand why I've lost my drive and other things on these pills. Before that I had no problem. But we did agree not to go up to 1025mg because I insisted that I wanted to try the gf diet. Does anyone really know exactly how long it will probably take to see results? Just an average guess?

Dear KimShea,
I hate to say it but we're all epileptics here and we see epilepsy because it's what we know best ( this includes me). You should visit your neurologist for ruling out other things it could be. From what you've told me it could be anything from migraines, simple partial seizure epilepsy, thrombocythemia, TIA ( mild strokes), polycytehemia. Are you hypertensive? Have you had any bloodwork done? Get your doctor to rule out sinister causes beforehand. I don't want to freak you out but it's better to get yourself checked out. My gut says simple partial and if not - migraine aura , but i still advise you to get yourself looked at.

Hello. I've just joined CPE. I read your e-mail about taking Keppra with temporal loe seizures. I currently am taking both Keppra and Lamictal to control left temporal lobe seizures. I am also taking Lexapro for depression I am having partial complex seizures in the left hemisphere. I am also having very vivid dreams, tiredness, and short-term memory loss. What have you heard????

Aloha! Visual weirdness, got it! For me it is as though I am looking thru running water, doc says that is migraine. As for other visual disturbances, sounds like seizures to me (I am no doc just a patient) My son teases me that I am the one who didn't 'experiment" with drugs...As for the meds making things worse..it can and often does, I am now on a pediatric dose of phenabarbitol and primidone. It does an ok job and I am mostly upright not 100% but more up than down.
