first time, has anyone had this kind of accident?this past 3 weeks have been difficult. i was happily riding my bike, (remember being happy, going to buy a new bike light!), next thing i remember -- crashing on new york city pavement. i have been rewarded with broken elbow and a concussion (headaches finally going away) i don't remember any kind of aura, or anything. usually before incidents like this, i get a pleasant, warm warning. was on seizure meds for complex partial seizure a few years back, but stopped taking them, since neurologist said she no longer thought i was having seizures. just saw another neurologist, who thinks that even though my seizures seem rare, abnormal 24 ekg plus bike accident suggests complex partial seizures are quite possible. does that story sound familiar to anyone? sorry to complain, but felt need to share. |

| The bike crash is certainly familiar! Luckily I came out of it with just a couple of bruises and scratches, loose handle bars and a bent front wheel though. I gave away my bike now

| LL, glad you came out okay! My stiches were on my jaw, so you can't see the scars easily (lucky me, although husband says scars give you character |

| Awww i hope you're feeling better soon. Luckily my bones appear to be made of tempered steel *touch wood* but i get plenty of soft tissue injuries.

| So far I've never hurt myself during a seizure, and I'm really supprised about it. I have partial seizures and I usually don't have any warning that one is coming on. Just bang right into the seizure. |

| sounds like me back 17 yrs ago but i dont remember anything before hand and since then all test have come back normal but with journal in hand and wife and kids as witness the new neurologist classed me with seizures and psychogenic non-epileptic seizures, which I'm finally ok with since with both it's partially controlled and I have meds that are helping. I was on a bicycle had a TBI, bruises 3 subdural hematomas, scars all over and witnesses that stated that I had what looked like a seizure wehn it happened, so yours sounds similar to what happened to me. | I wasn't riding a bike but was driving a car when I seized. I remember not feeling well that morning but this was before I knew I was epileptic. I recall coming to a stop sign, waiting for traffic to pass and took a right. I woke up in the ER with two broken shoulders and a head wound. Apparently I had taken our jeep through a families living room and was only stopped by a tree in their back yard. The ER DR. said the crash didn't break my shoulders but the seizure had. Had to have surgery on both shoulders (bankhart repair and scapular shift) which was very painful. I don't drive anymore and thank God no one was home at that house. So, my story is a little different but I can relate. Also, I still have clonic-tonic and partials quite regular....best wishes to everyone |

Sounds like a lot of people have similar stories Thanks so much to all for replying. Ouch! It sounds silly, but it's nice to have company, although I'm sorry you all had to go through that! |

Yes, you should be sure you're seizure-free, first. Until then, I wouldn't go biking, unless it's on soft carpeting |

| Baker81: You crashed through a family's house? Holy *@#* crap!!! That's got to be one of the worst I've heard (along with COurt poor guy). Sorry to hear about the shoulders that sounds like hell. Back in '08 I woke up in a ditch, so I get what you mean about driving one second and NOT the next. It was a shallow ditch tho and I had my seatbelt on, so could have been worse. Banged my leg on the gearshift and a few other little bruises but that's it. I had been diagnosed with E in '05 but didn't know that the 'episode' I had right before the T.C. was actually a simple partial. That was when I found out what the episodes, as I had always called them, were S.P.s since I was 15. Yay. Had I known (thank you for misdiagnosing me with PTSD) I would have been able to pull over. |

| Hey, whether driving, riding a bike, or doing anything else enjoyable, it stinks to have to worry about seizing. I live in a ski community in Colorado and majority of the activities up on the mountain I can't participate in. But, I still have volleyball and softball down at the base of the mountain which is a blast when I feel well enough to go. Stay active if you can!!!! You guys are great....would love to hear more. |
