When you undergo extreme stress (and/or a reaction to a medication), as much as 70 percent of your hair can prematurely enter the "resting phase", and it can take a while for things to get back on track. In most cases, assuming there are no other dermatological or hormone issues, your hair should begin to grow back within six months. If there are any abnormalities (like a deficiency or a hormone problem) it may slow the re-growth of hair. For example, low iron levels can be problematic, so taking an iron supplement or increasing the amount of red meat in one's diet can potentially reduce the amount of time before the hair grows back. Stress can also slow hair growth, so do what you can to relax.

I was on the meds for over ten years and had to stop. I think that is why it took so long.

Yes, it will stop. Don't worry about it we have to many other things to worry over. I'm just thankful that we have hair. Mine came back wavy and I have had strait hair all my life.

i have heard biotin only works if its a biotin deficency. did you take anything to help your hair grow back or did you just let it grow back itself?

One thing you can do if your hair issue does not seem to be resolving is to get your MD check your thyroid levels. Low thyroid is a major cause of hair loss if it is not still due to medication. Perhaps the meds affected your thyroid. Good news is that if your thyroid hormones are deficient, they are easy to correct w/ Synthroid or similar meds. Some people even say their epilepsy med side-effects are reduced when on Synthroid. The tests will tell you if it can help you.
