hello to all

Hi all,
My husband was just diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy, so I'm here to absorb what info you all have, and to have some of my questions answered.
Hopefully, he'll be joining too!

Diane

I am going to Welcome you again here Mooselips.
My daughter Rebecca is 16 and has been having seizures for 1.5 yrs. I have found comfort here at CWE as well as a bunch load of new information. It is good to have this knowledge to make intelligent decisions. I don't like to be at a loss for words around doctors.

Hi Diane - glad to meet you.
And I am quite pleased and touched that you are involved and concerned by your partner's epilepsy.

Diane!

Welcome to CWE! I need a total head transplant!
Do you know where I can get one?

Stick around and you can learn a lot by hanging
around but one word of warning ... it's addicting
in here!

Thanks for the warm welcome.

This morning I was wondering something..does dilantin cause big mood shifts? We seem to have a communication problem for the last few weeks here...
or just plain irritable-ness.

Brain transplant? Gosh, I do believe I heard they were doing a 2 for 1 special at the Cleveland Clinic....maybe we could sign up...I could use one too!

Not that I'm aware of. Keppra is most famous for that side effect.

Bernard:

But unfortunately, Moose is right,
Dilantin / Phenytoin can cause some
moodiness in some people and usually
is a sign of too high levels or overdose
or in toxic range, it's rare - but can
happen.

I had this slight problematic issue when
I was on Dilantin on 900 mg (300mg x 3)
a day for my height, size and weight. I
was way over the toxic range. I had to
be cut back a little bit; I usually run on
400mg / 500 mg alternate, but there
were times I would be 600 mg. BUT 900
mg daily? GEESH!

=========================

And MOOSE? About the 2 for 1 special?
Are they NEW or USED?

Well, I don't think we're dealing with toxicity at this time anyway, he's is on a good dosage for his height/weight. 300 tid.
I think it's a combination of KNOWING you have a "scary" disease, AND the isolation, AND giving up ALOT of independence, AND having to rely on others. It sucks for him, ya know? (I am sure you all know!)

Oh the brains!
I found a picture..let me know if you're still interested.
