Welcome Jacque I can tell you you're not the only person who wishes they didn't have to take medications for seizures. There are a few alternatives used to treat epilepsy you might want to check out http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/...ive-treatments. I know it was discussed how meditation, yoga or tai chi have helped some peoples seizures. Try using the "search" option at the top of the page & see what you find. I would never suggest you stop taking your medications in lieu of using an alternative though. I would suggest you ask your neurologist if there is another medication out there that might effect you less negatively yet still control your seizures.

| Hi Jacque, welcome! If your seizures are clustered at the same time of the month, you could have catamenial epilepsy -- the seizures being related to shifts in estrogen. Some people are treated for this using progesterone. You may want to ask your neurologist about this option. Topomax can definitely have unpleasant side effects -- unfortunately all the anti-epileptic drugs can -- but it's possible you would fare better on a different med. Many of us have tried a few before finding one with tolerable side effects and seizure control. Definitely ask your doc about other options. Best, Nakamova |
