Hey there from Houston

Fairly new to epilepsy. Diagnosed about two years ago and still having a very hard time dealing with it. Seizures are not completely controlled. Have a cluster of tonic/clonic and partial about every 6 months. Hardest part adjusting to not being able to drive and having to rely on others to get me places. Not being able to get around and be as mobile as I used to be. I hate being a homebody and dealing with depression, whether from adjusting to epilepsy or side effect of medication, its very very hard.

I work full time, carpool with someone (luckily) but they are looking for a new job. Not sure what will happen when they leave. Live in a city without good mass transportation and am single. Wondering how I'll get around or to/from work at a minimum.

Trying to learn as much as I can but there is so much to learn it's all a little overwhelming.

Feeling a little like doctor's just want to medicate and medicate some more. Not sure if I like that perspective. But am taking meds faithfully.

Trying to keep my chin up for my adult daughter who hates to see me depressed....but sometimes feel pretty low.

Hoping this website will shed some light and keep me from falling into further depression.

Thanks for sharing.

Welcome Seekout

I have to say that driving seems to be a lot of members hardest part of having seizures.

I've had my seizures since birth and was told I wouldn't be able to drive a year before I could legally get a license. Never having driven in my life I don't feel like something has been taken away and feel lucky for that.

As far as neurologists go, medication and certain diets are about the only thing they are legally allowed to prescribe because it's what has been proven scientifically. That's not to say other things don't work for some people. You might want to check out the list of alternative treatments. You also might want to check out the "History Book" where people document their alternative treatments for better or worse.

Hi, Seekout,

Welcome to the forum! I'm so glad you found us in here.

Seizures, medication and feeling blue is a huge topic of conversation in here. It affects almost all of us to one degree or another. What medication are you on? Some are more prone to making people feel depressed than others.

You are among friends here. Settle in - we are all in it together, and we are here for each other.

I'm on Keppra, liquid form because there was suspicion that the pills weren't being 'absorbed'. Almost at the limit of what I can take for Keppra. I already had tendancy for depression so medication with side effect of depression is really hard to manage sometimes
Am working on it though. Thanks for replying.

I'm sorry to hear about your epilepsy diagnosis.
I can relate to fact of having to ask others for rides.
I want to encourage you, I'm not saying that it is easy, I hope you have a good doctor that will listen to you.
It's hard to find a good neurologist, I'm going through that now in Atlanta.
I hope today will be a good day for you.
You are doing the right thing, getting all the information you can.
