Hi

Hello, everyone!
My name is Ann. I'm Korean by heritage & American by birth. I live in southwest Illinois. I've had seizures since 1990. I'm a part-time teacher who has finally found a school familiar with epilepsy. My passion for teaching is immeasurable. My ideal "classroom pet" would be a Labrador Retriever in honor of my totally goofy, yet beloved dog who made sure I was OK after I passed out & hit my head on a manhole cover. I tend to be 'bookish', but also LOVE to laugh & cook. I'm looking forward to forming friendships & being an advocate for epilepsy awareness.
Best Regards, Ann T.

What a great introduction.
Welcome Ann, to CWE. I hope that you do find a home away from home here.
There certainly needs to be more advocates in the educational system, that is for sure.
I have yet to reach out to the school district to see what more I can do. Being a parent of a HS Junior, my personal goal has just been to navigate the HS where she is, and help her to find success.

As her seizures become more controlled, I think I will make this a new project. I work in the school health office, and I know I can take some liturature so that other parents can read up on it. Many are unaware of the difficulities Rebecca has faced at school.

May I ask what grade do you teach?

Hello, Robin
Nice to meet you! As a substitute teacher, I've taught PreK-8th grade(including PhysEd:o). I love teaching 2nd-6th grade. PreK-1st are the sweater tuggers & engage in "he said, she said". 2nd-6th really enjoy learning, 7th & 8th get "been there, done that" attitiudes. I think it's wonderful that you work in your daughter's HS health office because if she needs you, you're close by. Well, take care & I'll keep in touch. ~Ann

Hi & welcome

to CWE! You've found a great place to be! Mr B (Bernard) has made us an AWESOME home here.........what a house party!!! So kick off your shoes, and stay a while!

Lots of friends, food, coffee (Buckeye should be around with this soon, his is the BOMB) and good times here. A Padded Room to vent in, a Library to research in, and all sorts of other nooks and crannies.

I, too, am a substitute teacher. But, I tend to do the 6th thru 12th grades. Occasionally, I will sub for the Resource teachers (Special Ed) in the Elementary schools....but not too often. I call subbing my HAPPY JOB. I leave that job laughing every day. I even have a book started, called "Tales of a Substitute Teacher, Volume One." It's fun when the new principal has no idea what to think when the kids clap when they see you walk into class....

Oh, and I live in Indiana.......so we're not TOO far apart.....

Enjoy your stay here. We're glad to have you!

Meetz

Hi, Meetz
It's nice to meet you, too! Hmm...The Padded Room might be useful after a day of teaching the I-Know-It-Alls & the talk show hosts of the classroom...yeah, teaching is my happy job, too. Best wishes on the success of your book. I guess you must be quite popular w/ students? Well, TTFN(Ta-Ta For Now)! ~Ann

Ah... I bet we have a few here that "fake it", just because they want to be at Mr B's dinner party. At least they have been told they are.

I too have been a substitute teacher. I prefer k-5. I am trying to decide if I want to continue subbing here. It is hard to be in a classroom if Rebecca were to have a seizure. I think I only subbed one day last year. Now that she is better it might be nice to have the extra funds for our hobbies. But then agaom. some of my new paths might be more lucrative. Guess it is always a good credential to keep on file.

Welcome to CWE Ann! I also am of Korean heritage. I'm a special ed. teacher, and have been teaching full time for 10 years now. The schools I've taught at are fantastic and were very supportive of my seizures. I was having seizures every two weeks, and the ones I had were grand mals. A couple of the seizures that I had were at school. But again, the admin and staff were fantastic...as were the kids. I love to bake, and due to some recent hearing loss, have been reading quite a bit. BTW, I taught middle school the first 7 years, and the last 3 years have been teaching at the high school.

Better late than never!

As promised by Meetz, here is the best coffee you will find at CWE. I have seen some of your other posts and you will fit right in here. Another great midwestern member.

I hope you continue to enjoy our home and find all the support you need. Just make Meetz move over and share a spot on the couch.
