Hi! I'm new here.

Hey everybody,

I'm 31 at the moment and in Houston, TX, USA. I've got Simple Partial & Complex Partial Seizures for the most part, but get Grand Mal Seizures on occasion. My first known seizure was Sept 23, 1999. I take 200mg of Lamictal & 900mg of Trileptal 2x day. I have had a Vagus Nerve Stimulator since Jan 21, 2005. My seizures have increased over time unfortuntaely, but I'm still kickin!!!

I've had 4 hospital worthy accidents. The worst of them was Sept 25, 2007. I was walking down the sidewalk in Downtown Houston when I lost consciousness, dropped and landed chin first on the street curb as I had a grand mal seizure. I needed a 6 hour surgery, 50 metal screws and 7 metal plates, etc. Don't remember much of it thankfully as I was on quite a bit of morphine. I had to get braces and must keep them for 2 more years and get another jaw reconstructive surgery, then I should be as pretty as the old days.

Looking forward to reading the website!
Will

Hi Will! Wow that is some injury! Thankfully the only grand mal I've had was in my sleep so I didn't really do any damage (besides biting my tongue). I have Complex Partial seizures also and am on Lamictal. Welcome to CWE!

Hi Will
My daughter has tonic clonic seizures. Meds didn't help, so we went an alternative route. Figured we had nothing to lose. I met a Vet. on the internet (he is a member of this site too), that explained to me how he was able to eliminate seizures in his animals by changing their nutrition. This opened my eyes to a whole new world.

At the same time we were doing neurofeedback. Which is a way of exercising the brain, to help stabilize the brain function. I also began giving her vitamins and minerals to support brain health. Well wouldn't you know, that her seizures are becoming less and less frequent.

Nutrition I see as a huge reason her seizures are changing. I think I am healing her from within. There are many other neurological disorders that are helped with dietary changes. You might do some research on this, and see if it helps you over time. It certainly isn't a quick fix, but after a while you might see that you dont' need as much medication.

Worth a try, in my opinion.

Welcome, Glad you joined the party.

Ah hah!

RobinN,

I am eager to read more on your Diet fixing info.

I went on some diet a few years ago where I only ate a few things that were all natural and that I cooked entirely myself. I slowly added ingredients of the foods I used to eat back into my diet and found that Peanuts and Caffeine give me seizures. I worked at Starbucks at the time and got that stuff for free, so it was tough to do.

MSG is no good either. I just happened to eat something with it and *poof* had a big seizure. Investigated things and found the MSG.

I have added many different vitamins back into my diet one at a time, but just forget how much something helps since the doc always changes the meds.

Eager to read more from the website!

Heal the gut, heal the brain.

I am reading a book called Brain Allergies. I will write more when I am finished.
What has been clear to me, more and more is that we need to stick to vegetables, a few fruits, proteins (non dairy), and see if can heal the body. Think how man/woman use to eat hundreds of years ago, and follow that if you truly want to get better.
