Hi Stevo! Welcome to CWE. We're a pretty friendly bunch, so feel free to ask questions, vent, or just chime in. Try reading the epilepsy 101 thread. It gives some really good basic info about epilepsy. I hope your uncle is doing okay. Is he just recently diagnosed?

Hi Stevo, welcome to the forum.

How do his seizures affect you?

Cool Hello Stevo!...

Are you his caregiver? This can be a very hard role to play.
If so (and if you are as young as the picture on your profile suggests) I really hope it is easier rather than harder!

Either way, and even if you're NOT the full-time caregiver...your uncle is lucky to have a nephew who cares enough to look for help!

Search the site and you'll find lots of friendly people and good info.

Peace,
Speber

Hi Stevo - Welcome

I have a daughter with a seizure disorder, and it is very difficult watching a loved one going through this. We have found alternative ways to help her control her seizures much better than the pharmaceuticals did.

I hope you and your uncle will find some great info here.

Hi there, Stevo!

Wow, I think it's pretty cool that you're wanting to find out more about E.

Here's the thread Skilly was talking about:http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/...lepsy+101.html

Some of here are caregivers, some of are actual E patients. Feel free to ask away.....we'll do our best to answer your questoins.

Stick around, I'm sure Buckeye will be around with the coffee soon!

Take care,

Meetz

What would you like to know Stevo? I have seizures that are known as tonic clonic (grand mal). When I have a seizure, I tend to fall (rarely do I have one while I'm laying down) then all my muscles contract and I have convulsions. Sometimes, I bruise myself because the convulsions are so strong. Also, I've bitten my tongue hard enough to make it bleed. I've also managed to give myself a black eye by falling into a firepit. My husband says that sometimes it looks like my legs are turned all the way around...that's how tight my muscles contract. Afterwards, all I want to do is sleep. I'm used to the seizures now. I've had them for a long time. My family and friends all know how to help me if I have a seizure. The only thing that ever really hurts, is when other people avoid me because the seizures have scared them. When that happens, I feel guilty....it's not like it's something I can stop if I want to....yet, I know it causes other people worry, concern, and for some, feeling uncomfortable. I don't want them to be uncomfortable or scared. Then there are other times when I have a seizure and wake up afterwards knowing that I wet myself. Kind of embarrassing....but that's part of it..... I'm sure that your uncle would be proud to know that you're actually trying to get some more information so that you can try to understand what he's going through. Just try to remember something....your uncle is not his epilepsy. It does NOT define him. But it is a part of him. But only a part.

Stevo....not sure what you want us to talk about.
For sure it can be depressing, but hopefully your uncle has good care, or is searching for good care.
Perhaps you could share with us your feelings about the situation, and we can help you find ways to deal with it. My daughter sees a therapist once a week, to help her cope with the disorder and her self image of being "different".
There are some alternatives for people with brain injury.
