Hi new here and i have stress sleep siezures

Hi,

I have stress sleep siezures. when i was born i had siezures for 3 months straight then stopped until i was 11. im 32 now and i noticed when i was 17 i only had them when i was asleep. i did some investigating and found they didnt recognize my type of siezure. until recently i think last year i found a artical on webmd about the kind i have.

i was wondering if other people hae this type and how they manage there stress.

Glad you're here at CWE

I do occasionally get nocturnal seizures. Even though my "normal" day seizures are made worse by stress the nocturnal ones don't seem to be triggered by stress. I also find that I am often very emotional (creating my own stresses), I don't know if I'm that way because of my meds (tegretol), because of the seizures, neither or both.

For stress everybody releases stress differently so it's best to find what works best for you. I used to work out (will again if I can stop procrastinating), listen to music or just vent my stresses to the friends who will listen.

This is a great place to be asking stuff like that though. We have a lot of knowledgeable people on this site who are also extremely friendly & supportive.

Welcome,

Epileric

I would assume you're allowed to drive if they're only in your sleep. You're pretty lucky that way since they don't interfere with your daily life. I know there's at least one other person here who only has sleeping seizures, they'll probably answer this thread pretty soon.

well being that im on meds i had to have doctor notes saying i am fine to drive when i was young now i dont need any of that. i can count the amount of siezures i have had in 10 years on 7 fingers. i have them rarely if keep my stress low.

when i was young the dmv was trying that "what if" thing. that doesnt fly with me cause a person who has never has siezures before can have them its totally random. atleast with me its documented that they only happen in my sleep. and i must say in 16 years of driving been in a couple of accidents never any my fault. havnt had a ticketed violation in 4 years so yeah im a very safe driver.

You're pretty lucky that way

I guess I could say I've never gotten a driving violation but I've never had a license either lol

Hi lyonman400, welcome to the forum.

Have you ever had a sleep study done to test for sleep apnea?

Hi lyonman 400

Welcome to CWE. Nice to meet ya.

*grinning*

I would probably be the person that Eric is referring to. Every last one of my szs are in my sleep cycle. I, too, can drive.

Now, I did just recently have an accident in December, but that was due to black ice. I have oh, about 15 witnesses stating to that fact. Of course, my neurologist flipped, and started doing a bunch of testing because I totaled the car, but that is the ONLY problem I've had in over ten years--I've been driviing farm equipment since I was twelve, so I've been driving for 32 years now. Tickets? Mmmm. Maybe a seatbelt violation, but that's it---you know, when they decide to set up the traps, and you just CAN'T get it on quick enough....

I typically have noctural tonic clonics, and a few noctural myoclonics sneak in once in a while. Now, I have been told that I have a third type of nocturnal E. We are in the process of verifying it, as it is supposedly a rare one, and yet another nocturnal E. Oh well.

Bernard does have a point--sleep apnea is rampant amongst E sufferers, and is something that you should have checked out.

Good luck, and welcome to CWE. By the way, don't forget to check out all the nooks and crannies.....Mr B has built us an AWESOME home here.....

Take care,

Meetz

Hi lyonman 400,

Welcome to CWE. This is a great place, I feel so welcome already and I haven't been here long.

Since I started having Tonic Clonic seizures I only had them in my sleep as well, but I had simple partial's during the day and in my sleep. When they happened in my sleep they often led to a tonic clonic.

That lasted for 17 years... now I'm 29 and I just had my first tonic clonic which started while awake. So for me things have changed. I'd rather have one in my sleep though. Luckily I was sitting on the couch when it happened this last time.

Mine are often caused by stress as well. It's tough to control that all the time, just a lot of deep breaths, and make sure you take time to yourself to unwind before bed. When I'm getting stressed out, or upset over something, I think to myself... "is this really worth getting upset over? think of what might happen if you don't relax..." That tends to snap me back into reality and forces me to lower my stress level.

It all takes some practice. I hope this helps!

Welcome Lyonman -
My daughter's seizures are during the day. Stress doesn't seem to play too much of a role in hers, but then again who am I to say when she is stressed or not. What I am noticing more is her blood sugar levels and hormones.

Have you ever considered what you have eaten prior to going to sleep?
Are your seizures after a late meal? Or an particular food. Could be 2-6 hrs later.
Something to think about, and keeping a journal is a really good idea. Actually, I have just been reading this weekend that sugar can affect you for as long as two weeks later.

Hello lyoman400,
welcome to the group.
I've had plenty of nocturnal seizures in my life, I was dx'd when I was 2.
Anything can bring on my seizures.
But with stress it has to be a lot of stress in my life for me to be seizing because of it.
Know one has a stress free life.
