I am new here

Hello, my name is Angela and my son, Daniel, was just diagnosed with Epilepsy. He is four years old and was put on Keppra. Tonight, which is day 2, he threw up in his sleep. He was so out of it, that he was still asleep while he was throwing up. Is this normal? When should we expect him to stop this horrible side effect?

Hi Angela, welcome to CWE!

It's a common side effect with Keppra, but I would think that's a pretty lousy one for a 4-year-old (and his mom) to have to deal with. Some side effects do fade over time as the body gets used to the med, so it may go away over the next week. If it doesn't, or if it gets worse, talk to your son's neurologist? Maybe you can change the time of day your son takes his dose, or change the med altogether.

What kind of seizures does your sone have?

Best,
Nakamova

He has Grand Mal seizures. I just got off the phone with my son's godfather, which so happens to be a pharmacist, and he recommended giving him a week on the med and if side effects are still present then call his neurologists. I could handle the throwing up, it's the throwing up while he is still asleep the scares me.
