Congratulations on getting the interview

I don't have that much experience interviewing for jobs after developing epilepsy, but the one time I tried to be up-front with an interviewer about my condition it blew up in my face. I tried to be positive and reassuring about how well controlled my seizures were, but, all of a sudden, the positions (plural) that had been advertised became a position (singular) and it was a job that I was way overqualified for. I might even have considered it anyway, but it was clear this guy was freaked out and didn't want me despite how impressed he had seemed by my resume. Not saying I'm so amazing at all:P, it's just that this was a job working in a small hotel and I had worked my way through college working at a really nice resort and I had lots of positive references from my former bosses. So, I was clearly qualified, he just didn't want to hire someone with epilepsy and I didn't have the confidence to call him on it.

But I would think a big company would have to be more careful about not discriminating. So try not to worry too much. Good luck!

Yay for you on getting an interview! It is tough out there, so you were pretty lucky. If I were you, I probably wouldn't say anything about your seizures unless they asked you point blank, which they aren't supposed to do. Since yours are under control right now, I don't think that it matters that much. Later if God forbid, you start to have issues, then you can speak with them about it, and you can use FMLA and not have to worry about losing your job.

Good luck! Let us know if you get the position

Congrats girlie!!!!! Super excited!!! Kick butt at the interview!!!

Me... I'm currently debating on the same thing should I be up front with a new potential employer or wait... in my case the majority of jobs I'm not overqualified for require a valid drivers license which I don't have.

Also... since your interview is today keep us posted and let us know how you think the interview went!!!!!

Congrats! That is great! I think only say something after you get the job, and it shouldn't be necessary if your seizures are under control. You certainly are not required to. The only issue is - do they drug test and will your meds show a false positive. I found this handy-dandy thread. Hat-tip to Chatter-Box. Suffice it to say, Lamictal shows up as PCP!

Can Lamictal cause a false positive drug screening?

Anyway, we are all cheering for you! Best of!

Wink

Congrats on your job interview! If it were me I wouldn't say anything especially if your seizures are under control.

Good luck! I hope you get the job. I'd advise you not to mention anything about the epilepsy though.

I agree with Neil129, I wouldnt say anything about your Epilepsy to them during the interview. From my past experiences, Ive said it in an interview once, and prior to saying it, they were very much interested in hiring me. They even planned for me to come back a few days later for a second interview, til they heard the news of the Epilepsy. I know, I shouldnt have said it, but at the time I had just moved out of my parents house, and I was kind of scared of what I might do, since I was alone, if I had a seizure. I thought id might as well make them aware of things too. After that was said, the manager said she had to look at her schedule and give me a call back regarding the second interview. Never heard from them again. Looking back now, I wish I never would have said anything about having Epilepsy. Of course, we tried to get them on it, during my SSI case, but they pulled their way out of it saying they had more qualified individuals rather than myself. That was their reason for not hiring me. Alot of businesses can get away with giving exscuses on why they didnt hire you. Its a shame, but theres not much we can do about it.

I worked at K-Mart too when I was 17! I thought it was fun! Good Luck on your interview!

Thnkks Everyone! And against majority of your guys' advice, lol, i did let them know..
It came out during some questioning, I just put it out there and she didnt have a problem with it(:
She was happy i let her know, so that if anything happened, they could be of assistance.
Before and after i told her, she said i'd be a really good employee(:

I got the job!(:
