Just sayin Hey...

About 8 months ago I started realizing I was "missing" sections of class, my classmates started telling me that I kept ignoring them, but then would just act like nothing happened, after talking with a friends mom who is a school nurse she suggested talking to my dr. A couple months later I saw a neurologist we said that I have epilepsy. To my knowledge I have not had a Grand Mal seizure just silent seizures. It is sometimes frustrating trying to continue living my life the way that I want because it seems as if that will never be possible.

Welcome chelsey

I was born with my seizures, Simple & complex partials (silent ones as you say). I've only had a few convulsive ones and all after the age of 18.

I used to always wish I'd gotten my seizures at an older age but after seeing on this site what it's like for people to get them partway through life I think I'm glad I was born this way & that it's just part of who I am.

What did bother me was about a year ago I talked with a neurologist-psychologist who explained that it's likely I've been having seizures that I"m not aware of. That scared me but I have to admit it explains a lot lol. In school I was often told I was daydreaming when I'd swear I was attentive the whole class too.

Meanwhile, take a look around the site & get comfortable. Feel free to join in any time. Also maybe this thread will be helpful Epilepsy 101

Hi Chelsey, welcome to CWE!

Your seizures sound like absence seizures. If that's the case, you might want to consider trying the Modified Atkins Diet, which has had some success in reducing absences.

Best,
Nakamova

That is what my dr suspects that they are. They believe the seizures are caused from severe test anxiety and not taking enough time to rest and doing to much at once. My symptoms were worse around exam times and when I was working full time while going to school full time. After all of this and getting mono i have modified my activities and allowed for more time to relax and between that and medicine have been seizure free for four months as far as i know.

I was diagnosed with seizures about a week ago. And up until then I thought having a seizure meant your body tightened up and u started shaking I had seen this my whole life due to my mom having epilepsy. I never knew there were other types of seizures. Now that i know what is going on i'm starting to think it has been going on alot longer than i thought too.

Yeah, its crazy. I knew there were more than one type but never dreamed that that's what was going on with me. My cousin used the work in the psych unit for the Air Force and he suggested I see a Dr because he thought that my brain was just "over worked" and couldn't take the stress of everything i was trying to do. Then my Dr. sent me to a neurologist cause some tests came back weird and here I am... but none of my Dr. s have successfully recorded a seizure so it kinda leads everything unanswered.

There are many people with seizures who have not been able to catch them on an EEG. Sometimes the seizures are too deep. That does not necessarily leave things unanswered. Like your doctor said, your brain behaves like it has epilepsy.
