| Hi Amanda, welcome to CWE! Good for you for helping out your sister with this. Lamictal is considered one of the safer drugs for pregnancy, and the vast majority (90%) of babies born to moms on anti-epileptic drugs are healthy. The main thing is to make sure her neurologist and OB-GYN are on the same page. It's very important that your sister takes a folic acid supplelement now and especially in the early months of a pregnancy -- that can help protect against birth defects. Lamictal blood levels can vary as estrogen levels change during the pregnancy, so your sister may need to have her levels tested at several times throughout, and have her dose adjusted accordingly. Here are some threads from the CWE archives that may be helpful to you and your sister: If you're thinking of getting pregnant... lamotrigine, epilepsy drugs and birth defects http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/...y-advice-6243/ Yet another pregnancy question Best, Nakamova |

Hi Nakamova! Thanks for taking the time to read my thread and post a reply The links to previous threads are GREAT, thanks a bunch! I haven't had the chance to attend any of her GP or specialist appointments yet, so it's very informative for me as well! I will be sharing the log in details to this account with my sister once she's feeling a bit more with-it. That way, if she has any questions, she can come to the Forum and ask people who can give honest and personal answers. I just had to Google 'Lamictal'- I didn't realise it had a different marketing name in the U.S from the English 'Lamotrigine'. Again, thank you! Amanda |

| Sorry about that, I'm so used to using Lamictal and Lamotrigine interchangeably. "Lamictal" is the brand name version, while "Lamotrigine" is the generic (cheaper) version. |
