Looking for Info on Vimpat

I am looking for information regarding side effects for Vimpat and other anti-seizure medications. My husband has a Glioblastoma Brain Tumor and has had 2 brain surgeries. I am having trouble finding much from users of Vimpat for brain tumor patients so I thought I would try here. He has been on Vimpat for 2 years. The first year or so he was on 100mg twice a day but is now up to 200mg twice a day. He is having symptoms such as confusion, fatigue, and trouble concentrating. He did not have these symptoms until after his second surgery and after he went up to the 200mg of Vimpat. I am trying to find out if these symptoms are coming from the brain tumor, chemo or other medications that he is taking. I have read and heard that anit-seizure meds can have these side effects and that they can come later on after taking them for quite some time. Has anyone experience this with Vimpat or any other anti-seizure medications? Any insight would be really helpful. We are going through so much and need to find some answers. Thank you so much!

Welcome to CWE

I know a lot of people here have been on Vimpat (not me though). Here are a few threads that might help give more information. You also might want to use the "search" option at the top & see if you find anything else re. Vimpat.

Vimpat

Has anyone else taken Vimpat? URGH!!

Vimpat, a new AED, has anybody else tried it

Also, I moved your post to the foyer so that everyone can welcome you.

Hi carjet, welcome!

I'm sorry you and your husband are dealing with a brain tumor. I hope you can find some answers here about the Vimpat. Since you mentioned chemo, I know there is also something called "chemo brain" which can also cause the symptoms you mention. You're probably already familiar with it, but just in case, there's more info here: http://www.cancer.org/treatment/trea...ts/chemo-brain

Best,
Nakamova

I have been on vimpat 200 mgs per day for about a year, along with other meds. I have not noticed any side effects that I didn't have with the other medications. The confusion and slowness has not gotten any worse with the vimpat. It could be the chemo brain as mentioned before. I work with someone that was going through chemo, and his thinking patterns and memory were greatly effected by it. Hope things start getting better
