My husband gets seizures from a certain ingredient...

My husband has been getting seizures off and on for the past 2 years. We have noticed that soy lechitin will trigger his seizures. We found it in the tea he was drinking. When he came off the tea it stopped. It was also in the chocolate bar he had. When he ate it he had seizures. His seizures begin with the absent stare during one day. The second day he has the "neck jerkers", we call them. The third day he can have the Gran Mal. We have noticed that with the smaller neck jerkers, his core body temperature goes down. If his core temperature stays cold, he'll have a Gran Mal. If I put heat on his neck, he gets better. We have prevented him from having a Gran Mal by applying heat to his body. I have also seen him have a reaction to green tea and lavendar. He had taken lavendar internally to relax, only to have the opposite affect.

I hope this helps people to stop having seizures.

Hi vabby, welcome to CWE!

Thanks for sharing your husband's seizure triggers -- it can be hard to identify them some cases, and the more things people know to look out for, the better. Is your husband sensitive to other soy products, or to other kinds of lecithin (like sunflower lecithin)? Is he sensitive to caffeine (which is also found in chocolate and green tea)?

Best,
Nakamova

I'm still learning about the triggers..what might the other soy products be? You mean like Edame? Coffee with caffeine doesn't seem to trigger. Teas with the soy lecithin or caffeine will give him seizures within 2 days of taking them. Very odd. He didn't used to have seizures either. For about four months, he was drinking tea like crazy, taking guarna, and taking lecithin in liquid form. I'm wondering if the overload on the nerve center in the brain was just too much.

Thank you for inquiring,

Valeree
