I wish your cousin well and hope she is improving. I wish I had an answer for you..maybe someone will have some suggestions. What are the Drs. saying?
I will tell you, I had a history of "spells" for yrs. and my eeg's were normal. After yrs. of having the "spells" that they called nocturnal panic attacks, I was finally diagnosed with epilepsy and it finally showed up on an eeg.
Best wishes for your cousin!

Michelle

Hi kayben, welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear about you cousin. It seems unusual to me for someone to go status the first time they have a seizure. I hope the docs figure out what set them off.

Question for you: Has she been hooked up to an EEG machine all this time in an effort to try to catch the seizures? If not, she needs to be so that the focus of the seizures can be found....Ep can show up for no reason at all, but status for a first time is odd......but not unheard of.

yes, she is in icu with continuous monitoring..... she is in a drug induced coma but they still see evidence of "spiking" or seizure activity on the eeg.... its like they don't know what to do next ??

It sounds almost like a toxin...
insect bite
drug reaction
CO poisioning

But then maybe she has hae E for a while and is undiagnosed. I do hope the culpret can be found. I'm sure a tox screen has been run. Why not check her body for a bite of some kind. At this point anything can be the cause.

Please keep us up to date, if it turns out to be E, she will need a lot of support.
