New to Forum... Saying Hello

Just want to say hello to everyone... I am new to the forum. I am 58 years old and was diagnosed with grand mal seizures when I was only 5 years old and have experienced may different types of seizures over the years including audio seizures .. I was unaware of the existing of these type of seizures until I heard a tremendous amount of glass breaking and I panicked. There was no broken glass... found out it was a type of seizure and I have experienced it a few times since. I have been through a few meds over the years, but Tegretol XR seems to keep me pretty well in check. So right now I am doing very well at 1200 mg a day... 400 mg 3 times a day.

I do have a questions to ask.... have any of you taken the flu vaccine. I have never been allowed to.. ever. My daughter is adamant that I should be receiving the vaccine especially since I am epileptic. Just wondering whether or not I am alone.

Welcome DCiaburri

I'm also on Tegretol XR (CR up here in Canada).

I do agree with your daughter, you should get the flu vaccine, I got mine and feel better for doing so.

I've been researching the vaccines extensively & have found lots scientific studies proving how safe they are & lots of anecdotes saying otherwise.

I tend to feel more comfortable with what is proven.

Hi CDiaburri,

I'm glad you found CEW forum. I think you will find alot of helpful information and LOTS of support.

I have gotten the flu shots for many years now, and have not had a problem.

Welcome to the "family"! I have never received a flu shot. My view point has always been, why? Knock on wood, I have not even had a bad cold in years. Now I probably just jinxed myself

Hi DCiaburri, welcome to CWE!

Like huskymom, I've never gotten the flu shot. I'm very healthy overall, and I work at home so that tends to limit my exposure to passing viruses.

Hi DCiaburri! Nice to meet you!

My doctor said this year's flu shot is contraindicatd for people with neurological disorders. I dug a little deeper and found out that it's the LIVE vaccine they are talking about. That's the one that goes up your nose.

The flu SHOT (dead virus) should be fine.

I had a flu shot this year. Got a bad headache, but I'm very glad I got it. Some nasty flu is already going around and it's only November.
