Hi Valerie - I know how hard it is to keep a steady schedule when you are dealing with a seizure disorder. Are you living on your own?

As for medical insurance.... does your school have a policy that you can sign up with? Perhaps others have dealt with this situation.

I see that you are in Grass Valley. How is the medical care there? All of it is expensive I know. Sorry to be so nosey, but are you still under your parents medical plan? When you are going to school full time, sometimes you can be added.

Glad you joined the group. We have others dealing with school and glitches in their day. Hang in there, others will be along.

I have been living on my own since i was 18(when i graduated HS). I have no health insurence and can not get on with my college or on my mother insurence! I have the whole town looking for me. I have not been seem by a neurologist since i was 18 and also the only medical treatment i can afford(barely) is my medication,a clinical doctor visit, and my every 3 month tegretol level. Other than that I have not had any medical treatment and my clinical doctor is basically throwing her hands and says I really need to get an EEG and CAT scan or she can not help me further.so that is why I am here maybe, just maybe someone has some answer for me? sorry about the rant but truelly I am a positive, strong person.

Consult with your County Health
Department in signing you up with
the State's Program (every State is
different) ~ plus, they may also get
you through some additional assistance
and help as well. You'll be surprised
at what all they can do for you to
help you. It's not "All Welfare" as
people are led to believe!

And Valerie ... welcome to CWE!

Hi Valerie, welcome to the forum.

Your situation sounds a lot like the way my wife's life panned out when she was your age (with a few important differences).

I don't have any advice on insurance, but there are a few things you can do: Proactive Prescription for Epilepsy

See if you can find a copy of Epilepsy - A New Approach: What medicine can do, what you can do for yourself - it's a good book.

Welcome Valerie -

I agree that you should contact your Health Department and maybe they can help you. As we all know, lack of medical insurance is such a big issue. I sure hope that you can find some help with this issue.

We all need to rant once in a while and it is so wonderful to know that people here will listen to us.

welcome!

Hi Val!

Hmmm....as for insurance, I can only suggest that you go to the county health department. Health insurance companies tend to be skittish about accepting people with pre-existing conditions...however, they will if you can show a long period of time without medical issues.
Anyway, welcome to the forum. There's plenty of people here with plenty of info.

Oh! Are you going to college? If so...check with your disabled student services office. They might be able to help you with your attendance issues, if they're related to your seizures. Most colleges have one.
