New here, would like some advice

Hello, my name is Alissa I am 32 and a mother of 3, and over all healthy. Never had anything seriously wrong. 2 weeks ago I got this sick feeling in my stomach, felt faint like and went to sit down. I got a bad taste in my mouth(metalic), so my husband made me some juice. I then felt out of it. Not all there, very tired. My husband decided to call 911 as I started twitching, feet and hands, then my face. Eyes, nose, ect for about 15 seconds. I felt numb all over. My hands were kind of inverted and "stuck" I did feel quite panicky by now. The emts said my bp was very high but prob just a panic attack. I knew that was not all it was. Ct came back fine from e.r. Today I had an MRI my doc ordered. During the mri I had another twitching, tremors of just the right side of my face(eyes, nose, mouth) and I felt very limp in my arms. Lasted only 10 seconds or less. I was told by the lady performing it that it seemed I had it during the time the specific test for seizures was being done. Now I am confused at 32 how does an onset like this happen, and does this sound like a Simple seizure? I have to wait till Monday for results, and I am trying to figure this all out. I wasnt told not to drive, and since I am basically still all there I dont see a prob with this. My husband is military, and this didnt happen on times he was deployed, so not sure if its stress related? I just need to vent and talk to people that maybe have experienced what I have? Thank you

this could have been a seizure , but dont stress , wait and see how your test results come out ( stressing out could bring on another seizure if thats what it was ) and yes this can happen at any age , i was in my teens when it just came out of nowhere , as far as driving goes , since the doc didnt tell you otherwise thats up to you , if it were me i would aire on the side of caution ( but thats just me ) i hope they figure it out soon , and im sure you'll get alllooot more helpful advice than what i can offer , but in the mean time .... Welcome to CWE !

Welcome alissab

What you described sounds like my seizures. During mine though my left eyebrow goes up. I don't feel it but I see it in the mirror sometimes. Sometimes I have stronger ones where my head will be pulled to the right too.

I know it is weird when it sort of comes out of nowhere, especially when you're healthy. A lot of people here have had the same experience. I personally was born with seizures so I've never had to go through the shock of realizing I have them.

Something I would suggest doing is keeping a diary of when you sleep, when/what you eat, move your bowels & have these seizures. It won't cure them but it might help you determine what is triggering them or making you more likely to have one. Remember stress is also a seizure trigger for some people.

In the meantime, make yourself at home here and check out the different "rooms" on the site. You might want to use the "search" option at the top of the page if you want to look for something specific.

Thanks for your responses. My initial episode as I call it for now my head did pull to the right also. I can only describe it as just a lot of twitching and weird stuff going on. Of course docs want to write you off if you dont talk about losing consciousness and are on the floor. I will try and be patient for the results. I guess another question I have is do they always get worse? Or anyone only have a couple and never again? Also today after the MRI I had a few periods where I was just laughing for no reason. I sound crazy..but I am wondering if this is common?

When I was younger and I had a seizure I would hyperventilate, my mouth would tense like as smile & I'd sound like I was laughing.

When I was too young to know about epilepsy my parents just referred to them (at least around me) as laughing spells. Calling them that actually made them feel like they were more fun than they really were. Apparently I still hyperventilate but I'm told my friend can't tell if I"m laughing or crying from the sounds I make.

When they are constant they can get more frequent and severe as your neurons get used to misfiring at the same stimulus or same place in the same nerve. Mine have been getting worse recently & I do wonder if it's just that mine have never been controlled very well.

Welcome Alissa. You will certainly find plenty of helpful information here, and very supportive people.

A question for the more experienced members: Is there a component of the MRI aimed at testing for seizure areas, as described above? I've had my third MRI today, and this is the first I've heard of it.

Hello and welcome

Mine came out of nowhere too and the age of 45. Strange how our bodies work. Try not to worry too much, and let us know what happens on Monday! I will thinking of you.

Hi alissab32, welcome to CWE!

Your symptoms do sound like seizures, perhaps simple partials originating in the temporal lobe. The twitching and twisting of the head to the right sounds very seizure-like. The metallic taste and the inappropriate laughing suggest the temporal lobe origin. I agree that it's best to wait until you have the test results. In the meantime, it's a good idea to write down all the details of what happened, as well as notes on your general health in the weeks or months leading up to these symptoms. Perhaps you can find a pattern or a trigger. We all have different seizure thresholds, and sometimes it takes a specific trigger or triggers to push us over the edge -- it could be stress, fatigue, something nutritional/metabolic, hormones (any chance you're pregnant?). It could be a nutritional/metabolic issue or an infection.

And there's definitely a chance that this is a one-off event -- I certainly hope so. Keep us posted on the results of your tests, and feel free to ask more questions.

Best,
Nakamova

For all the wonderful supposrt and advice. I was neg on the pregnancy test they gave me! All labs came back in normal range for blood work. So we shall see what my doc says. I will start a journal about it. Good idea. Now can high bp trigger them? Mine was super high that day

I would assume high BP can be a trigger. I know seizures are associated with hyperventilation so I'd assume blood pressure & heart rate could also be associated.

I would think any sudden change in the body can trigger a seizure but Remember this is strictly what I assume.

Both very low blood pressure and very high blood pressure can cause seizures, although it's not common. Sometimes very high blood pressure can cause symptoms of a stroke or a temporary decrease in oxygen to the brain, which in turn causes seizure-like activity.

It's been about 9 years ago, when I was 26 that my epilepsy came out of no where.

My first seizure was the worst and ended up being in the hospital for about 2 weeks before I was realeased.

Through out the years now my seizures have gotten much less severe. Now I will sometimes have ones where I'll blank out for a minute but usually I'll have one's were I just start to feel confused and have trouble thinking about what I'm trying to do. My arms and legs will feel weird. I also never knew when one was going to be coming on, but now I usually know.

Stress is a main trigger for me. After a stressful situation my husband and I just basically wait for the seizure to come on because we know it's going too. However even that has lessened alot also.

Hope your test results come back with some info for the dr to beable to go by.

Aloha Alissa, I was 37. While it may be a panic atack of sorts it sounds very similar to my own experiance. The good news is you found this site the bad news is it may be a bumpy ride ahead. I highly recomend the stories and experiances you will find here as it will help and educate you like none other. Remember that as scary as it may be for you, it is scarier for those who love you...remember they are learning too Our family has been through hell and back but I was there (and upright) for our daughter's wedding, my husband still loves me and I still learn from and depend on this site!
