Hi. This is my first post. I have had seizures probably all of my life. I don't take any prescription medicines. I use supplements, herbs and homeopathy and am also allergic to drugs. I just went back on a raw vegan diet, and that is making me feel so much better too.

Welcome Jnanda

This is a great place for information & support.

I envy you that you can control your seizures without medications. I'm sure you'll be able to contribute a lot because of that too.

Diet helps me immensely. Foods are definite triggers for me. I am not yet seizure free, but I have been making steady progress over the past ten months, fine tuning it all. Thanks for the great welcome.

Smile Diet/Meds

Welcome Jnanda,

This is a great website! Glad the diet and your med free schedule is working out for you. I would love to be med free! I'm working towards the same goal.
Can you give more details on your diet and the supps you take?

My diet consists of raw vegetables, sprouted legumes, raw fruit. I am hoping to add in soaked nuts and some seeds soon. I am vegan so don't do any dairy. I eat mostly low glycemic foods too, as the sugar is a problem, and avoid caffeine also. Foods for me make a huge difference. I also am doing a little cooked foods like steamed veggies and cooked legumes. When I can add in the nuts, I might go 100% raw, but I am around 80% probably now.

The supplements I am taking, are a vitamin B complex, B 12, multi mineral, a multivitamin that is high in antioxidants, Maca root, iodine for my low thyroid, probiotics, vitamin D, lots of vitamin C in the form of ester C. I also take two chinese herbal formulas: Tian Ma Gou Teng Yin and Chai Hu Gui Zhi Tang. The later formula is definitely helping the seizures. Both combinations treat seizures, and the later one has some good clinical studies behind it.

I take homeopathic formulas but they vary. Right now I am taking one to balance hormones.

I also take other Ayurvedic, Chinese or Western herbs on occasion, mostly to treat what seems to be a chronic low grade infection and allergies.

I have an allergist who basically acts as my primary doctor. He is outstanding, and his specialty is working with children and adults with multiple chemical sensitivity. He is an allopathic doctor however supports alternative medicine. I also have a general family practice physician that I only see once a year. I am lay trained with some course work in herbal medicine, and also did some training many years ago in India for homeopathy. I have studied extensively for the past 15 years on my own as well. It's a passion but also a necessity so I could regain my health, and do it without medication. I was on drugs for many years and never had good results. Eventually I developed severe allergies to chemicals and drugs. It turned out to be a blessing really.
