Question please help me ... feel like giving up :(

hi im jayde i have been getting episodes for the last 6 years since i was around 16 ( 22 now)

i have been to so many different drs and consultants
but dont seem to be getting anywhere

let me start by describing these episodes ...
i start by getting a strong feeling that everything is going in slow motions around me and i sometimes feel a strong de ja vu feeling ... i think get starting at my right ear a kinda numbness thats runs down my jaw and its almost as if my jaw goes into spasm i cant speak and my mouth seems to over produce saliva ... some times this happens at night and im not aware of it happening the nly reason i know its happened it my partner tells me its happened and my toungue is mega sore where ive bitten it ...

i also get fainting/black out type episodes where i do have jerking movements when im out and when i come too i have to sleep even if i fight to stay awake the tiredness takes over ...

im just wondering if anyone can relate to any of this??
im awaiting another appointment with my neurologist on the 22nd of dec ... to discuss my EEG test that i had done .. i had a normal EEG done and then a sleep deprived EEG

any help would be appreciated as im getting my self down over it cause im just being pushed from pillar to post

Hi jayde,

Your symptoms do sound neurological, and could definitely be epilepsy. What have the previous doctors had to say about them? Have they prescribed any medications? If so, have the medications helped at all?

The neurologist should be able to help you come up with a treatment plan. In the meantime, start keeping a detailed ymptom journal if you aren't already. This can be helpful the doctor, and it can also help you potentially identify any patterns, or triggers that may be contributing to your symptoms. (Triggers can be a wide variety of things -- fatigue, hunger, hypoglycemia, food allergies/sensitivities, hormones, infection, physiological and emotional stressors, etc.). Also write down as many questions as you can think of for the neurologist, and write down the answers when you see him on the 22nd.

Best,
Nakamova

Hi, Jayde,

Welcome to the forum!

I agree that your symptoms could be neurological. About the EEG results - whether they are positive or negative you may still be having seizures. Seizures have to affect more than a 2.5 inch square of the brain to be picked up, and many focal seizures are smaller than that. (focal seizure = affects just part of the brain, like a simple-partials like your slow motion and deja vu) Also, EEGs only penetrate a shallow amount into the brain and some deeper seizures can't be picked up - it's particulary a problem in frontal lobe and deeper temporal lobe seizures (like in the amygdala).

A seizure journal is a critical step. One important function is to help objectively see if your seizures are getting better or worse on your medications. Here's a thread with different seizure formats.
