Smile Prednisone

My son has uncontrolled partial seizures and he was recently put on prednisone to treat poison ivy. He seems to be have more seizures. Do you think it could be caused by the prednisone. Also does caffeine affect seizures? Thank you.

Hi Katomay, welcome!

Prednisone can lower seizure threshold, so it could be making your son's seizures worse. (In addition, anti-seizure medications can decrease the effectiveness of prednisone, so it may be less effective in treating the poison ivy.) The poison ivy could also be a stressing your son's body and lowering his seizure threshold.

Stimulants (like caffeine) can definitely be seizure triggers for some folks.
