Question

Hi all,

I'm new here and I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask my question but here goes.

I had my first seizure 2 years back and a second followed 4 months later. Both grand mals. I was put on 1000 mg Keppra twice a day. I had a third seizure last Thursday and the neurologist put added 300 mg of Dilantin to my medication.

Has anyone here taken Dilantin and Keppra together? If so, how was it?

Thanks,

PS Please email me your answers if at all possible

I have been on both of them. Neither one of them worked for me.

Welcome here Dynasty! I like the name. I am just getting off Keppra. I have been on it for about 6 years. Something like that. I have not been on those to together. I was on dilantin when I was a lot younger. Keppra was a good drug for me. For my grand mals.Dilantin did not work as well . But that has been a long time.

Dilantin had worked wonderfully for me, but unfortunately
it had taken its toll upon me where I had to be taken off of
it (wrecked a havoc on my teeth and gums). However with
Keppra - I had problems with it, but I didn't know back then
that it was recommended that one should be on a supplement
such as B-vitamins or Folic Acid.

I wouldn't mind giving Keppra another chance in spite that
they had put it on the allergy list due to what all had happened.

But I had never been on the both of them together though.

Hi td09, welcome to the forum.

My wife was on both Dilantin and Keppra briefly following her last trip to the ER. She weaned off the Keppra within a couple weeks though, so I don't think her experience really offers any valid baseline for comparisons.

Dilatin was hard on my gums. Did a lot of gum surgery. Luckily my mom worked for a Dentist at the time. Since you are on it.A little hint...brush your teeth with warm salt water while reading a book or watching tv. Sounds dumb I know, but it will keep you from getting gum disease and your dentist should have some good mouth wash for about 6$ a bottle. Great stuff for healing and prevention. Teresa

We use a RX mouthwash called "CHLORHEXIDINE GLUCOSE ORAL RINSE" - covered by our insurance - it REALLY helps w/ gum probs regardless of the cause (I'm tired of trying to figure out why my crazy body does this and that - I reckon I just know I'm breathing and am thankful for that!!)

I never knew E could be so extensive, however.

Oh good , you know the name of the stuff. My medicaid does not pay for it. But since I've grown up with all the dentists around here they do my teeth for free. Breathe

Unhappy Keppra

For me, Keppra seems to be doing great, however, has to be upped every so often. Also take, as I have stated before, Neurontin, and Klonapin.

I reckon they gotta find a toddy that works individually for each person.

I've been fighting off an aura, just - I think had some sort of seizure outside, couldn't walk right, like a drunk, felt like a drunk. Pretty ok now.

no - but we're coping with my E. See neurologist tomorrow. Need med change. Thank you so very very much for caring about the mite on the dog's tail...lol. I feel like when I feel like I do now, I am safe and cared for here and tomorrow will be better. ( Eyelid twitching off an on all day, belly weirdo feelings earlier, felt "wrong" earlier. Now, just peacefully caring for others - that helps me more than anything - focusing on others. Plus talking to the ONE who understands me thoroughly. You know.
