Is there a known cause for your seizures? Do you know if they originate in a particular spot in the brain?

There is no known cause..
Medicine's aren't working and I'm scheduling my brain surgery for *hopefully* early next year.
From all the tests i've been thru, they seem to originate on my left side but just recently my doctor said they're starting to see it on the right side..

First seizure was probably a partial that I didn't recognize. First known seizure was a tonic clonic.

Majority of my seizures are partials until they generalize. But I do have more partials than tonic clonics.

First seizure was at 9 months old & was a tonic clonic.
Had tonic clonic seizures until I was about 2.

I had no more seizures until I was almost 25 & that seizure was tonic clonic.
For the last 9 years I have mainly taken auras & partial seizures.

Hi kristol

Hope you can get a date for the surgery soon & it does help control your seizures.

I had brain surgery in March & am currently 8 1/2 months seizure free & I'm aiming for the 12 month goal lol.

The first seizure I had - where I was aware that it was actually a seizure, was a complex partial a year ago. After this I learned about simple partials and knew I'd probably had them since my teens. I can escape with just a couple simple partials on a good day - and 20+ on a bad day. And this is usually when they develop into complex ones.

the first seizure I have was a complex partial, just after Christmas last year. The next one was a tonic clonic in February this year, Since I have countless simple partial almost every day until it graduates to full tonic clonics.

Tonic-clonic: middle school cafeteria, age 11

For most of the duration that I have had epilepsy it has been only tonic-clonics, but in the past 4-5 years I have developed first absence and then complex-partials. I think I have had simple partials, but rarely. It has changed which are the most common. Right now, probably partials, but the tonic-clonic seems to have made a comeback, which is quite unwelcome.

How many? All told? Probably over 50 tonic-clonics alone. When my doctor switched me from Tegretol to Lamictal I had 7 in 1 day (Thankgsgiving '0. My partials sometimes come in sets, so I will have 3-10 at a time. So I have probably had more of those by now.

You and Kristol are so brave. My doctor has offered me surgery and I turned him down. I did not want to take the time off of what I was doing. But what I am doing now is not working either. And it is nice to see that it works for some people. I am maybe rethinking. I have an appointment in January to check in with them.

Best of luck!

tonic-clonic and tonic-clonic
as far as I know in terms of some kind of tangible (witness, injury, blackout...) the only type of seizure I've ever had is tonic clonic
but i don't know a thing really
I had a tonic clonic on Sunday and now Wednesday I'm still having the heebie-jeebies, which could maybe be classified as a seizure.
so overall, I'm not sure

First kind/common?

Nocturnal T/C and has been ever since. Prob around 15 at this point, luckily regular meds keep me seizure free.

Good luck to those considering surgery. It's a scary thought but is more than well worth it. I'd much rather that then continuing to go to sleep every night scared.
