okie dokie,
this happened this morning (and for once i am not the one to not notice something... there have been to many to name), walking my daughter to school and we pass by our new neighbors home (they moved in in august) and my precious daughter looks at thier brick mailbox with a brick planter attatched on each side and says all excited "mommy that mailbox is so pretty, but how did they get it all put up overnight". I was rolling inside with laughter and told her that they had built it back in August. She looked at me like i was the one that was crazy.

Muahahahah, it wasn't me this time. (trust me it is embarrasing when a 6 year old tells you that something has always been somewhere or that we have EVEN been there before, this time as evil as it sounds, i got the laugh because i noticed thier new mailbox before they had even moved in )

To Alivenwell:
My husband always has a box of that baldness stuff. Not because he's bald, but to treat his scalp. It helps calm down the psoriasis. The box says its only for a certain type of male baldness (the bald spot on the back of the head). I don't know anything else about that subject.
To Matchu: And yes he looks like his name... old hippie biker preacher dude. I am blessed!

I am so glad to see that I am not the only one who overlooks things. When I got my new cell phone a year back I was taking pictures and they would turn out dark and hideous! I spent many hours going through every file in my phone figuring out how to turn the dang flash on. After about a week of trying I went to see a friend of mine (very techy) and gave him my phone and asked him to please turn the flash on for me. He took the phone, turned it over, looked at it and gave it back to me. His response "there is no flash!" DUHHH!!!! Man did I feel silly!! HaHa But then again it did take me a few days to realize that even though it was a touch screen I still had to answer the phone by hitting the button. No wonder people looked at me like i was crazy as my phone would be ringing and im banging the screen and yelling that it wont work!!

>Endless Great Link! I'm not the only one!!
I asked my doctor about both the weight gain and the hair loss the last time I saw him and he just kind of rolled his eyes and said its not from the Lamictal. I have at this point in time lost about a third of my hair and have gained about 70lbs. This is all making me depressed. He did say he could change me to a different med BUT they would have a Lot more side effects. It just makes me want to cry. It works so well for seizure control that I am afraid to lower the dose, what if I have another seizure? I am terrified I will lose my drivers license.

What's with doctors? Seriously. It boggles my mind that they would refute any side effect with a drug like lamictal that obviously has major implications with brain chemistry. To deny the possibility of a side effect like hair loss with a medication like that, in my opinion, is just bad science. I'm 88.9% certain Lamictal caused my hair to fall out. It's half as thick as it used to be and I have nothing else to implicate.

Superchickone,

My doc told me to taper down my dose, in hopes I can get some sleep. I'm scared of losing my license, too. Just scared. Seizures are awful.

I'm going down more slowly than he said to. Then if seizures get worse I can stop tapering off right away, and build the dose back up.

Superchickone -- I can't believe your doc said the hair loss and weight gain weren't related to the Lamictal! Google "Lamictal and hair loss" and see how many responses you get. look up Lamictal on askapatient.com, and see how many people talk about hair loss or weight changes. Arrrgh. It makes me so annoyed. My own neurologist said my hair loss and blurry vision were due to diabetes. But I don't have diabetes, never have, I'm not at risk for it, no one in my family has it, etc....

Anyway, even though I had seizure control on Lamictal, I decided to taper down the dose (despite my neurologist's misgivings). I went very slowly, and at present I'm at 175mg/day (down from 250mg/day). The hair loss went away. I still have the blurry vision and some other annoying side effects, but they're manageable right now. I'm not saying you should taper down, just that it my case it happened without loss of seizure control.

Thank you everyone for your support. I know that the hair loss and weight gain is from the Lamictal, despite what the doctor says. I actually have my yearly appointment with him on Monday. I am going to ask about lowering the dose, it looks like a Lot of you are taking a much lower dose than I. I'm taking 400 a day. I can't wait to see what he says. :-)
