Cyber hugs needed :o( :o(It hasn't helped that everyone keeps calling me to see who the axed head is going to be, everyone on site is really rooting for me to stay, which makes me feel better, I work in an engineering environment and to the men I work closely with I am just 'one of the guys' (that gets a hug now and again), but unfortunately it isn't their decision. I have worked in the same position for nearly 11 years and am currently feeling gutted at my name being put in the pot and also I don't know how long it is going to be before I know anything which is going to do my head in. My job is so convenient for me, as I can walk to work and the only travel that is normally required is travelling to europe (holland, germany, france etc) so once again there are no issues with driving. I have got to find a way to calm down now before I self combust.

| Oh CM ((((Big HUGS)))) You must just be a bundle of nerves. Do you know when you'll find out for sure? When does your boss come back? I'm glad you have your friends at work to support you and validate all of your years of effort. Please keep us updated. And I know it will be hard, but try to pace yourself so maybe you won't have any increased seizures due to stress. Take care of yourself and know that we are all hoping only the best for you! -Julie

| Hiya Julie My boss is back on Tuesday. I work with a great group of guys that I know will come and give me heaps of hugs tomorrow when the news has spread, the ones that already knew were shocked and they said that if I get made redundant, it will be the wrong person, which has made me a bit better, but unfortunately it is not a popularity contest and also I am not wanting to be selfish towards my boss, but sometimes you have just got to watch out for number 1. I think that it is too late to calm the seizures tonight, they have been driving me nuts, they started going mad this afternoon and have pretty much been non stop since, I just hope I get a good nights sleep as I have a meeting with a supplier in the morning and I would like to hear there half of the conversation. Cool, I can take my frustrations out on an unsuspecting supplier, sounds like a plan. Thanks for the hug, I will keep you up to date, hopefully no news is good news

| Hey CM, I know I'm gonna be a bit hypocritical here as I'm a strong self-stresser, but you really need to focus on what the situation is NOW. You could be worrying the years off your life for no reason at all. Think about it, who's on the most money ?....bossman or you ? IF the company are making cuts, most likely linked to the credit crunch, they'll wanna look at the big picture and see what makes the most sense.....getting rid of you on your pay-packet, or boss-man on his bigger pay-packet ? Do you actually NEED that boss there ? Is he carrying out a role that's not really needed for the company ?....therefore, are the company paying this man a wage that's just as good to the company as pouring liquid gold down the drain ?? Think about it - it might NOT be you. ![]() However much worrying we do in our lives, tomorrow will still be the same. So really DO try and get a good night's sleep - it's out of your hands. |

| Hey TT - you speak sense and exactly the same questions and answers have been going round in my head, my boss was off long term sick at the beginning of the year and I ran the office just fine on my own for months. In actual fact I have been doing the majority of her workload all year even when she was on site. So it will be a real kick in the guts if i'm the one booted out of the door. Unfortunately a stress free life isn't happening at the moment, I am actually calmer during the day at work then I am when i'm at home. I think it is because I am surrounded by people that genuinally need my help and I can keep busy, I have a few managers that are willing to fight my cause, so I am going to have to see how the next few days pan out. I didn't sleep last night, I will try and sleep better tonight.

Sorry I didn't get back to you last night - I'd done a runner at 7:30 to go and watch the soaps (hehe). The place I worked many years ago had a trend of getting rid of people, redundancy-wise, every Friday....this was ongoing for about 3 months ! Our boss-lady was in tears every Friday as she had no FUN in telling people that they'll have to leave and find another job elsewhere - I actually felt sorry for her. One thing I did learn from it though....she was not given a list of names, but a single figure. From this figure she would have to work out WHO in the department to get rid off.....so let's say that the figure was 50,000.....she always said to me, "it makes more sense to get rid off a boss who's on 50,000 than 3 workers on 17,000". So, chin up and finger's crossed. The weekend's here - don't waste it worrying about something that's out of your hands.....I so pray it doesn't happen, but you never know what life is gonna chuck at us Tomorrow <ahem>....so always live life for Today. I hate that question at interviews, "where do you see yourself in 5 years ?"....my answer would love to be "I do not live for where I will be in 5 years, but for where I am right now, as life should be lived with baby steps - this way we will never be disappointed with where we are and what we have done". Obviously I don't use that answer as they'll just think I'm very strange, but some people need a reality check....a simple little wake-up prod to bring 'em back to earth. |

| Try to focus on the good things this week end Crazy. I know that is easy to say, but at least try it for your E. No good things to say when jobs start getting cut and usually by people that are just looking at a number, instead of the tasks that are necessary to keep the doors open. Damned Accountants (sorry, I am one - but the good kind). I will be thinking of you this weekend. |

| gosh I'm sorry. my hubby's office is in the midst of the same thing. It's scary. In hubby's case he was told to rank his people and it may be up to four. I have a friend's whose hubby is safe at the moment. Fisher Price just did layoffs. But depending on how well toys sell for Christmas....... |
