feline self hypnosis

so my pets are ALways weird. my husband blames it on me. says im so strange my pets take after me. my dog has what looks like night tremors or nocturnal seizures when she sleeps among other funny characteristics but my cat is actually even weirder. she goes into self hypnosis whenever she stares at anything containing liquid. it can be a glass of water, a bottle of soda, a can of juice or anything... the longest i recorded is over 2mins. but we (my husband and i) have witnessed even longer trances. i wonder sometimes if shes having a simple partial seizure? (i need to work on remembering the def. of each one). its not like i could ask her when she comes out of the trance " hey do u remember anything?".. shes a CAT hahaha. so i wonder... do i attract to pets with the same kinda electrical misfiring in their brains as me? or do pets sense the chemical embalances in my brain? i know some are able to sense seizures like the S.A.D. dogs which i am currently training my dog to do.. but seriously, anybody out there agree with that theory? that you unknowingly seek out pets that have similar personalities?

I know that seizures are relatively common among older dogs (although I think what you're describing may be your dog dreaming that she's chasing rabbits). I haven't heard about cats with epilepsy. Certainly animal brains are similar to ours in some ways and very different in others. I wonder if a cat's ability to stare intently is a leftover from its stalking in the wild (the way a lion will focus for a long time on a gazelle).

I wouldn't be surprised if you and your pets have a subconscious connection. Pets often often sense things that we don't. (Have you ever noticed how they'll go right up to the person who is most allergic to them?). It could be an electrochemical connection, but it could also be nothing more than that you're a loving compatible human who has the opposable thumbs required to open the cans of cat food.

There is a certain amount of "amusment" on my ex-husbands side of the family about the fact that the only other "relation" with E is his Aunts' toy poodle. Given that my nickname is Cat, the jokes seem to be endless.
I do know of a couple of dogs with E but other than myself (hehe) don't know any cats with E. Also have a friend with a ferret that I'm pretty sure has siezures.

actually alot of cats have seizures, but its almost always tonic clonics. dogs do "sleep run" where they dream of chasing something and their legs move as if they are running. but if his eyes are closed, he's not seizing. dogs when they seize are bug eyed and their lips curl.

Chad's dog has what we think are complex partials too. She'll walk around in circles, drooling and twtiching and then bow, and shake her but, then get up and wander aimlessly. she's got this glossy look in her eyes, and teh drool is frothy and alot!

She has had several tonic clonics, so we know she does have epilepsy. I think she is 6years old...

ok so im now confident that my dog is not having seizures :-) BUT apparently she is losing the fight when she catches those rabbits because she'll yelp haha. maybe her dream rabbits are bigger than her. which would mean over 30lbs. and my cat does stare a good length when she is stalking my dog *chuckle* i widh there was a way to upload videos so i could show u all.. but she also talks to birds so... i've just written it off as having one hell of a strange kitty! but i wouldnt change her for the world. and my dog DEF. has wut it takes to be an s.a.d. doggy. i once had a seizure (think is was a complex partial) in the bedroom and right b4 my husband said the dog started flipping out really bad in her kennel. if only i could stop her stubbornness training would go alot smoother lol. anybody out there have a s.a.d dog? got any training tips??
