First Stress, Now MRSA...

I swear, I dont think Im ever going to get a break! I thought I was having a really bad case of Acne break out. I have PCOS (Polycycstic ovarian syndrome) and it affects my hormones to the point where I can get so much acne right around the time ovulation occurs. So I went to my doctor who treats this and she put me on a low dose of birth control. She said my hormones were out of balance causing my testosterone to rise during ovulation and in return it causes alot of acne. So since may 2, I started taking birth control pills.

Fast forward to last night. Im getting ready for bed and I went to wash my face and I notice on my left side, near my chin area, is what I think is just another freaking acne area. I look at it more and can feel a hardness to it. It hurt and didnt feel or look like the normal acne Ive had. So I make an appointment with my primary care dr this morning. They cultured and just incase, gave me an antibiotic to be on the safe side. I had to see the PA, but he really thought it was just bad case of acne and said since I was on week three of the birth control, to see how the next pack goes. He did culture it and said it would take a few days to get back. We had our youngest son's ear surgery today, and after getting done with that and released to go home, we stopped by the pharmacy to get the antibiotic filled. My husband went in to get it while I stayed outside with the kids. He comes out with two prescriptions!? I ask what was the other? Apparently the culture came back positive for MRSA, and 20 minute before we got there to pick up the antibiotic, the dr ordered a spray for my face to help with the prevention of getting MRSA again!

I hate this. If its not one thing, its another. I just want things to get better.

When it rains it pours eh? I hope the antibiotics can get the infection under control. An MRSA infection can be a serious thing, so please keep a close eye on it.

Yeah i guess it does. I had this stupid stuff back in February too. It affected the same area, only it moved into my lower lip and I had to get it lanced open. I was put on the same antibiotic as last time, and was told if the culture came back positive, they were going to try a spray that I use once daily to prevent the MRSA from returning. So I got home to put a hot wash cloth on the area as the dr said, washed my face, tried the spray and took a dose of the antibiotics. Im just praying it works and this goes away fast!

Do you know where you might have picked up the bacteria? I hope it wasn't in the hospital.

I have no clue as to where I would have picked it up from. I havnt been to any hospitals around that time period. I got that treated, and in March our middle son picked it up from his school. Had to take him to the doctors for that. Then comes april, our youngest son had his ear surgery on his left ear during that month, but no one had MRSA. This month, I get MRSA again, and today our youngest son had his right ear done. So where I would have picked this up from, I have no clue.

I think you can pick it up from places where a lot of folks are together -- like a school, or a gym, or the Y. Anyway, I hope you can zap it for good now.

How's your little guy holding up post-surgery?

Yeah I would have had to picked it up somewhere. Probably when we were out shopping for groceries, etc. Besides that, thats the only place I go to, other than staying here at home with the kids during the day.

So far, he is doing good. He is up and eating. They said to take it easy for the first week. He goes back on May 30th to get the stitches taken out. In the meantime, he's doing great!

I have a gnarly story...

My son was 5 and picked it up from our gym. He was spending too long in the bathroom one night and I opened the door to check on him. It was then that I noticed a painful red sore on his rear end. It was hard, red and angry. We had him lay down in the den so we could see it better. My husband did a quick squeeze and the icky puss shot across the room and into the ficus tree - YUCK!. It was crazy! Needless to say, it was a good thing it drained and it healed after we went to the dr and got some meds...

Hope yours heals soon. Did ya buy some Hibacleanse?

I havnt heard of Hibacleanse. I will have to look into it. As of now, the doctor has me on clindamycin and also prescribed some antiobotic facial gel to help with preventing it to occur again. I hate having to deal with MRSA. Im just praying it goes away quickly!

Hibacleanse is a special liquid body/hand soap that kills mrsa. I think it's the only one on the market that does. You can buy it at drug stores, so ask your pharmacist.

We had to put ointment up our nose, the face spray sounds so much better.

Get well soon.

Eta: I've been spelling it wrong. Hibiclens.
