Getting my own place is scary!

Soooo i have some viewings for flats tomorrow. They look like small places, but they're newly decorated and have new bathrooms/kitchens, and at £70 (About $110 i think) a week, an absolute bargain. A small place isn't too bad when it's only me living in it lol.

I have the finances sorted etc, and now that it's actually come to it, i'm a little scared to move out! I've not been on my own for any period of time since i was diagnosed, and for at least the first few weeks in my flat i won't have a landline phone, just my mobile. I'll have to make sure i keep it on me all the time.

It's little stuff... i mean how do you get around showering etc when you're living by yourself? Do you just hope for the best or call someone round for a bit while you have a shower?

I suppose this time at least i'm not moving all the way to Ireland, so family will be living only a 15 minute walk away.

Mind you i've so been looking forward to having a place that's mine, and if one of these flats is perfect for me then i can't turn them down at that price - they come up so rarely. A one bedroom flat is normally £90-100, and i've been saving and planning for ages. Well, about two years now lol.

I am trying to find a new place. and yes it is kinda scary. I look at another apartment tomorrow

I think of all the times I have had a seizure in the shower. And the fact I just leave the door open or dont lock doors when I use the bathroom these days.
Other just silly things.
Of course, how far will I be from the hospital, and how easy will it be on a bicycle.
Will my sewing bother people. Getting groceries with just my bicycle, Or do I buy or sew saddle bags.

I live alone, and don't worry about showering alone -- but I've never had a seizure in the shower before. If I did one, I would add it to the list of anxieties I suppose. I have had a seizure in the bathroom -- managed to bang into a bunch of hard surfaces including the edge of the medicine cabinet...

Anyway, I hope you get a nice cute apartment Lou. Will there be a place for plants? A little balcony maybe?

Nah, no balcony or places for plants. Just yer basic little flat with a living room, bedroom, bathroom. I've only had one seizure in the bathroom before, wasnt actually in the shower at the time cos I'd just got out of it, but got myself a minor concussion =\ I have had some minor cuts/burns etc while cooking, but nothing major.

I plan on making my flat pretty, most cream coloured with red sofa, curtains, cushions etc. Red is my favourite colour I'm definitely looking forward to doing the shopping bit! Will be soooo nice to have my own space!

Court - luckily it won't be too far from my parents so they could still give me a lift to hospital appointments etc. I should really get my bike fixed. It's been bust since I had a collision with some railings lol

Good luck with the flat/appartment hunting Loopy & Court.

I moved into my own place 3 years before my seizures started again. I live 30 mins away from my parents but have a great neighbour who keeps an eye on me & also talk to my Mum daily.

I have had a couple of auras & smaller seizures in the shower but usually get out of the shower while I am having the aura so luckily haven't hurt myself yet.

Well if I get accepted it will maybe take a couple of weeks. They usually have to do credit checks and stuff, not sure how long that takes. That's alright though, cos should get my wages from work by then so will have a wee bit of extra money.

Hope they accept me, its perfect!

My husband was deployed to Afghanistan in December so I've been alone for around 6 months now. My son and I both have epilepsy. Like other users have said, don't worry too much. I've had a few seizures alone. I've had a few seizures around others. Many of my seizures have an aura and I have time to sit/lay down. But an average day by myself is still an average day. I hope you get the house of your dreams but I would want a place for my plants. :-)

Ooh I'm terrible with plants. My mum is great with them. I'm more of an animal person. I'd love to get myself a wee dog or cat. Well... perhaps not a cat yet because it would eat the bird lol.

The flat i wanted is going to someone else

Found another one, but it's £90 a week and would be nearly a grand to move into, with rent upfront etc. Mind you, it's two bedrooms so i could take in a lodger if i needed to. Going to view that one next week.

Edit - oh yeah, and it's on the next street over from the one i currently live on, i could nip out of my back garden, through my mum and dads back garden and bang on their door lol.

bleh,
finding a place suck when you are on disabilty,
so I tried to get my dad to co-sign, but he is on disabilty to (parapalegic from a motorcycle wreck) and lives in another state. He said nope. makes sense.
Still hunting.....

The gf is going to ask her mom, I really didnt want to mom in with the gf but she really needs a place to state. and moving in together keeps her from having to work a crazy amount of hours, and actually getting to see her kid.

She is going to ask her mom. so we will go turn in apps on tuesday and go from there. One that is questionable but 4-450 after bills, and one that 600 after bills but quiet and has nice floors and near where the gf and like to hang out and near her job in the nicer part of town but pricey and TINY KITCHEN.

bleh.....

This is a pretty goofy thing but do you have a pet or could you have one where you are getting your new place?

I have a cat and he usually always seems to know when I'm going to have a seizure. He'll follow me around the house yelling at me. When I have the seizure he'll get on me and stay there till I'm out of it good enough to be moving around on my own. I'd just weird how he knows it.

Well, I'd like to get myself a small dog. Cats are out of the question at the moment as I have a budgie that likes to fly around. Wouldn't want her to become a tasty snack lol. Had two back to back seizures last night, am worried about that happening if I live on my own. That's why I'm looking for a place that isn't too far away from my parents.

Still looking for places at the moment, checking for new to market stuff pretty much every day. Mum and dad are also moving to a smaller place soon so I need to find somewhere.

I was talking to my dad the other night and he was saying about how him and mum are moving out. Now they said to me that they're getting a two bed place and there'll be a room for Owen (My nephew) for when/if they finally foster him.

So i take this to mean that i need to step up the search for a new place cos there wouldn't be room for me in the house that mum and dad are moving to. So i've had about four flat viewings this week, three of them yesterday. Of course i've been asking mum and dad's advice on them.

Then my dad tells me that quite frankly, me talking of getting another place is "annoying" him. Then when i point out that it was something i'm excited about and would like their input whenever possible, he tells me that i "took that the wrong way"

How could it be taken any other way? I'm annoying them, great. And there was me thinking i was just asking them for support. Then he tells me that the new place is actually 3 rooms and there would be room for me, and i don't need to rush to move out. They couldn't have told me this weeks ago before i started panicking?

So anyhoo i resolve not to mention it to them again. Next they'll hear of it is when i'm moving. But then he comes in from work today and asks how its going and if i have any applications to do? I'm confused....

Anyhoo, as it happens, i came across a place yesterday which is really nice and in a quiet area, and i can see the sea from my (potential) flat. I'm applying for it now.

Also, was going to do a flat share with a friend of mine but we hit a snag... Called round at hers to discuss the places we'd been to see, and within five minutes of being in her flat (she has four cats) i was sneezing, coughing, eyes streaming and getting bumps on my arms. I'm allergic to the bloody cats lol! Shame, cos they're gorgeous. That's that plan out of the window.

It sounds like you caught your dad in a cranky moment, but then he got the message when you said you were excited about having your own flat, and made an effort to be positive when he talked to you today.

I have a friend who is allergic to cats -- and has three of them! She loves them so much, so she just takes the allergy medicine so she can keep them.
