A Group For People With Epilepsy(in Kentucky)

I just recently moved from ILLINOIS to KENTUCKY back in Dec of 07 & now i'm getting used to the area I live in with the exception of onething.

I Don't know anyone around here & I can't drive due to my siezures so I have noway around the area besides walking & my fiancee is against that until I get to know the area better (even though I am of age 41) it does scare me at times . I'm on 4 to 5 siezure meds & they make me tired so I don't go far , in fear I might get lost cause of not knowing the area well yet . I'm looking for some people who have EPILEPSY that live in Kentucky please contact me & thank you . DAVE

I live in Pa, 50 years old, and am on 4 different meds for epilepsy. I use to go everywhere on my bike but now even though I know the city I live in like the back of my hand, I hardly go anywhere alone. If I do go alone it is over to see my Mother 5 blocks away from us. My Wife does all the driving. I think I just decided to accept what the epilepsy is in my life. I know it is hard to accept, it took a very long time to do. I understand your feelings and hope you find a solution to your problem. Never give up, I didn't to many other people love us just the way we are even though we have epilepsy.

I am going to plug Neurofeedback once again...
It can make your brain function more effectively. My daughters abilities such as note taking, test taking have all improved since March 13th. A brain that is damaged can also be made to work more efficiently.

Dave, you're one step ahead of me. I have no sense of direction. I don't go alone simply because I'd probably find my destination purely by luck. I have GPS, too. I take buses and try to read maps.

Hi Dave. I saw your post a couple of days ago, but haven't been able to reply. It's been a busy couple of days for me, and I haven't been here except for a quick post or two, but I'm here now, and I wanted to say "hello", and let you know that I, too and from Kentucky.

I moved to KY from Cincinnati when I got married about 19 years ago and have lived a couple of places within the state before settling here on my husband's family farm. It took me a while to fit in here (not that I ever will completely "fit in"), but I think that is true whenever you move to a new place.

One thing you need get used to about Ky, is that they like their basketball. For many Kentuckians, it comes before horse racing, certainly before educating our children, even before God (preachers cut their sermons short when University of Kentucky is playing). So don't slander their teams, and you'll be OK.

BTW, in Kentucky, you must be seizure-free for 90 days to be able to drive. My seizures have been well under control, so I drive, which is a good thing because we live in a very rural area, no public transportation, no close neighbors. I hope you get yours under control.

Hi Lynn , it's me DAVE . I'm glad you finally posted on here that you're in KY , but onething that bothers me is in the town I live in they have NO local buses or transportation . So that leaves me stranded UNLESS I have a DR'S apointment then TACK picks me up & drops me off to & from apointment . I don't go far for my fiancee is afraid i might have a attack while out & I know NOBODY here at all. Other than that I'm mainly stuck at the apartment due to no car & no bike . I'm afraid to walk far from the apartment in fear that I might have a siezure . I don't have a MEDICALERT necklace or bracelet so I'm scared to go far. I do wanna make friends in KY but I want them to be local friends (as intown) due to me not having transportation . I hope we can meet sometime even if its with family , I like farm life for I have a uncle that raised pigs for slotter (His way of cash in pocket & food on table) . I know thats not right to some people but IF you must you must. Well i'm gonna go for now , if you wanna respond back to me please do so & Thank You for your post AGAIN DAVE .

Wow! That sounds cool. Do you grow vegetables as well? Here in Pennsylvania, the Amish live a unique lifestyle, too. I saw a 4 horse plow (they don't believe in driving) going through one of their large fields.

I went through their country last fall and it was awesome to see. I live near a large city, smog, highways...yada yada yada. Hack, Hack, Cough, Cough! It has some bus transportation, but I love fresh country air. I do techie stuff. It was such a great relief to see non-technical, non-electrical natural methods to make a living.

There's an excellent book about a farmer who is now over 100 years old called 'My First 100 Years'. The author grew up on a farm, ate all kinds of veggies, his mom did a lot of canning for winter, they stored perishable food in a hole in the ground with a huge ice cube (natural air conditioning!), and basically walked a lot. The author became a senior athletic marathon runner. He never drove a car.

I suppose some vegetarians would not like that way of living, but when we think of it, our method of getting food on the table is to go to the grocery store. It came from somebody's farm like yours.

By the way, is your fiance' somewhat controlling, or overprotective?

Hey Dave,
I'm in Lexington, where are you? I just moved here in May from New Mexico. I had uncontrolled seizures for many years. After brain surgery failed I learned to control them without drugs. I have been seizure free since 1998 without the drugs.
