Unhappy Enough already!

I know I have photos in my diggy camera,
winds, rain here in Florida while we have
Ike's edges .. and poor Texas!

Let's Hope Ike makes a U-Turn or literally
falls apart or just stalls out in the Gulf and
falters away and becomes a total wimp!

I'm getting a little tired of going outside to
pick up my garbage can that the winds keep
knocking it over. So far, no outages here,
but it's 8:32 and Ike isn't a pretty sight over
here and I can imagine that Texas isn't going
to like what they're going to see what's coming
at them!

Batman, many, many, many storms have caused loss of human life and not all of those who performed such task have been retired.

I only live about 10 miles North of Surfside. My hometown is about 50 miles South of Houston, and Friendswood. I am at a friends' house in Wimberely now. I am not too concerned about the wind, most houses built today can handle the speeds of the winds in Ike. I hope our house does not flood. Talking about stress.

Well, if noone hears from me for quite a while, I may be floating on my rooftop screaming about FEMA!

Party on!

Rain Cloud

To all the Texans - take the Floridian's
advice ... be armed with Spray Paints!
You're going to need it!

(Not to spray paint your neighbors)

But to spray paint your property or
what's left of it ---

YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY
POLICY NUMBER
YOUR TELEPHONE NUMBER
YOUR LAST NAME

(Why the heck would you want to
spray paint your telephone number
for when you wouldn't have one
anymore - when it's POOF - GONE?

EASY! In the event if the media flies
by - your family, friends, relatives, etc
can recognize it and know you're there;
and plus Insurance Companies can match
it up on the database!)

If this Hurricane begins to come as
a Category 3 and picking up, you will
be very SMART to start to spray paint
ahead of time on the plywood or drive
way ... and yes, it's even a good idea
to spray paint your address too.

You can always paint over it after the
Storm is over with with concrete paint.
You'll be none the wiser to get the heck
out of there and spray paint NOW and
get outta there now before you're stuck
in the traffic jam!

We have already had a taste of IKE's edges
so we know it's one "NASTY BOY" ...

I have a very strong feeling this is going
to be a very mean Bully machine when he
hits Texas where the Rangers won't be
able to shoot him down!

STAY SAFE TEXAS!

I honestly do not think that this storm is going to be that bad. Our weather forecasters always try to hype things up so that they can get lots of national media attention. There will be some flooding and some things thrown but it will not be much. Of course, there will always be the complainers who say that the government did not do enough.

The Houston Chronicle's weather guy has been posting a blog with the best (ie. non-sensational) coverage about Ike. It hasn't turned as far east/north as i was hoping overnight. Looks like I'm going to get a direct hit if things maintain course.

View of Ike from the international space station:

More pics from the space station...

Live streaming wall to wall coverage of the hurricane from the 4 major networks (you can adjust the volume on the players to listen to one at a time):

http://flhurricane.com/ikecoverage.html

They are calling for Galveston to be wiped off the map just like during the 1900 hurricane.

May God Bless Texas!!!

Stay safe my friends!!!!

My fear is the geography of galveston and houston. This storm is aiming that right side punch straight into the bay.

Cool We here in Austin let the kiddo's out from school early....

...to make room for evacuee's.....

....sadly, it looks like many chose to 'ride it out'

I hope everyone is going to weather this!

This seems appropriate:

...and of course....

Batman, have you had any rain yet? So far, all we have had is a little cooling off. If feels good but we would like to get back to our town.

Some of relatives stayed, they said it was not bad. They said there are few trees and powerlines down but that is about it.

A friend said that a limb is laying on my parents house but that it did not do any damage. They have giant pecan trees all around their house. They have mentioned Sargent several times on the news, that is where my mom and stepdad live. The police have blocked off the road about a mile from their house so we are simply stuck here, for now. We would like to get back now though.

Oh well, I told everybody that it was just going to be a bunch of big hype and, pretty much, it was. The news said there was a good chance that we would have a 25 foot storm surge, and it was only 10-11 feet. The news said that it would be a high Category 3 and very likely a Category 4. That was obviously wrong. The winds stayed at a low Category 2.

Some of the unprotected glass buildings in Houston were damaged but other than that not much else just wires an such.

Texas...

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in Texas. Having grown up in Florida..we have had our share of hurricanes and also while I was in N.C. we went through Fran as well. My family in the Florida panhandle was affected by Fay and had major flooding and some trees down and damage..and also family 20 mins North of New Orleans was affected by Gustav. It has been a busy season for sure!
Hope all of you are safe and know I am thinking of you and your families.
Keep us posted on how you're doing!!

God Bless!
Michelle

Unhappy

Haven't heard from Bernard. The Houston area is pretty messed up so he may be off-line for a while. We have him and his family in our prayers.
