Never dull in my household...

My 19 yr old informed us this week that he is enlisting in the Marines.
He is tested, had his physical, and signed the contract. It is a done deal.
I am very proud of him.
He has never had set goals like this before, and they seem quite clear to him.
I am sure turbo prayer will come in handy.

Robin, It's good that your son has made some decisions about his future. I'm sure you're both shocked and proud. I wish your family well.
Sincerely, Josie

Awwww, Robin!!

Now that you are over the initial shock,(MAYBE) I'm sure you're a proud mama.

My brother did the same thing. At a little older age, but my poor parents reacted much the same way.

Best of luck to all of you. Semper Fi!

You'll be one Proud Mama!

son whom I grew up with, is a "retired" Officer.
and he never regretted it!)

Thanks everyone.
He went running this morning before work. I think he is a bit nervous about the next three months, so he is trying to prep a bit beforehand. He has not decided on a job yet, but he has a few in mind. It is nice that he has quite a selection to pick from.

He was finally able to tell his girlfriend last night. She is studying to be a doctor, so they don't get to see each other very often. I am sure that it was not easy to tell her.

I am proud. Those images are very special Dale

UPDATE:

My son, Eric, is finishing up his third week at MCRD - SD (Marine Corps. Recruit Depot - San Diego)
He says he has enjoyed himself so far. He likes what they are teaching him. He says the hardest part is how long a day it is. It will continue to get longer I am afraid.
I am missing him, but I write to him every day and then walk the letter to the Post Office which is a good 2 mi RT. Gives me a chance to reflect.

There is also a parent forum (like I needed another forum to spend time in), thankfully they are less chatty than this one. I can ask questions and many are experienced with the routine.

*** Just got my second hand written letter today. All's well
My favorite line was his last: "Well I have to go now, I love you a ton. (heart, heart XOXO)

...can you tell I am missing him?

This choice he has made really touches me.
He had to live through some really difficult times when his older brother was trying to selfdistruct at the age of 16. Never an easy kid to live with, but Eric put up with it and rarely called attention to himself.
Then he has had to live through the drama of his sisters seizure disorder over the past 2.5 yrs. He has been supportive, yet never expecting much in return.
So now is his turn to shine, and in such a positive way. I couldn't be more pleased.

Phase I is officially over. Five weeks gone and all is well. He has lost 20 lbs so I hope I recognize him in May.

My son will be a U.S. Marine, in 11 days. I will be able to see him (for the first time in 13 weeks) in 18 days, and he will graduate in 19 days.

.... But who is counting?
