Plasma donation and Lamictal?

I need the money badly! I am considering plasma donation to help out but I have a question you guys may know. Can you donate plasma while taking Lamictal, 400 mg/day?

I think it depends on what state/country you're in.

In Canada (British Columbia & Ontario), all the doctors I've asked have said "yes" when asking if I can donate while being on anti-epileptic drug's but all the people who collect the blood have said "no".

I'm not allowed to give blood here in Massachusetts as long as I'm on an AE. I assume that's the rule throughout the U.S.

I was unaware that paying for blood products was still in use. Thought that went away long ago. It was my understanding that they were getting such tainted blood that it didn't make it worth the chance.

I think Plasma is handled totally different than blood. I know here in Ohio, they still pay for plasma donations. It is not much, but it is something. You can also geive it much more often than blood. Your body reproduces it much faster than the blood cells themselves.

I am not sure about this part. I believe that I heard that the medication restrictions on plasma were more open. Again, I think it is due to the fact that they can treat the plasma before giving it and also the meds are not carried in the plasma. This part is simply what I have heard, not verified fact.

NO! no lamictal. Don't give while taking drugs. I have been a recepient when I had my craniotomy. Please, you might need the money, but somebody might be allergic to the drug. And they might not catch it.I am in a state of not having much money right now to. But I know that there have to be better resources. Teresa
