pets as kids? This may be a new thread. I was wondering how many of us had pets when we were kids. I did not. My dad had a dog named trixie, and he gave her away about the time I was three to a neighbor. We had one of her pups that we named Joker, but we gave him away to the pound because of me. My parents lied about his fate. Said we were all going to the park with Joker. He was an 'outside' dog, but apparently the specialist is was forced to see. decided that I would be better off without pets. One of my dads friends had a horse. I rode it, but he died. That horse got me to start walking and talking. I didn't have a pet until college, and I had already taken myself off of meds by then. I now have cats, in direct defiance of my parents wishes. They are soothing, love unconditionally, and are great companions. ![]() |

| Hello To All!!! I very very strongly believe in the power of pets as I have come across it with two seperate pets A few days ago I was wasnt in the shower, I was getting out of the shower and became very dizzy and feeling quite ill, my cat must have some how sensed because he started meowing really loudly, my sister came to the door yelling asking me If I was ok, I said I am ok just got dizzy, she said i looked pale and I was really sweaty, I just stayed put for a few a bit. I went to get up very slowly this time with my sisters support, my legs all of a sudden buckled but my sister had me. what if I went to get up and i was by myself, would I have still fallen if my sister wasnt there, I feel lucky to have my cat, plus he is such good company. He doesnt like me sleeping, and i think its because of when he saw me having a seizure. I had a seziure in front of my ex bf's dog, but b4 it happened she was being weird being really norty then she run into the lounge room and we had been in the kitchen she wouldnt come if i went out if went in only to run back in again then she ran in and jumped on the lounge, I tried everything but nothing worked. I am not sure how long after that I had a seziure as the last thing i remember is giving up on getting her out and was going to get a cuppa insted, but when I came to I realised I had a seizure and a good one at that i was still in the lounge room with taddy laying right beside me. I remember crawling over to the bean bag deciding I didnt want to get up until my boyfriend at the time got home as he shouldnt have been far off and went to sleep, I woke up to hearing taddy howling and yoddling and my boyfriend trying to get near me but she wouldnt let him, he was asking if i was ok, if i was hurt or had pain. I was like "what are you going on about" he said "You have had a turn, havnt you" "i think so, but how do you know, I said "Well you look exhausted, you have nice shinner comming out, and the only time I have seen taddy like this is when Sarina (his sister)" had seizures It made sense as I met Sarina b4 Matt at a support group and she told us about her dog how she had done a similar thing. the vet told matt it is a protective mode. So all I can say is that animals are so very very special, They are now training dogs to do such things as warn people if someone is about to have a seizure, also other health conditions such as diabetes, training them if someone is about to go into a sdiabetic shock or insulin shock (hypoglycemia) as they can have sezuires go unconcious. I have seen some footage and it did work and I believe it is well worth looking further into. I am really sorry this is such a long long post, I just wanted to share that with you as I think it was really special and to show ppl that pets can sense, well I believe they can. pictures I have added pic1 my cat inmy suitcase, when I was going to hospital pic 2 my boy just b4 he was 1 pic 3 goliath with his sister gaisha Pic 4 goliaths brother, they called him chicken little cause he was then runt, he doesnt look so little now, he is still smaller then my boy just dont tell them that. pic 5 my boy when he was a bubba Thankyou for your patience Take care everyone Smile and Stay Safe Last edited by Tate; 12-15-2007 at 09:11 PM. |

| Tate, don't you apologize for the length of your post... it was very touching. I am glad that you have animals around you. Very very special. My new kitty (8 mo) disappeared on Christmas and didn't return for over 24 hrs. I was beside myself. I gather he had curled up in someones garage, and was in lockdown until the next time they opened it. I sure hope he learned his lesson. |

| My cat who came to live with us on Dec. 26, 1987, left on Saturday, Feb., 2. Twenty years of joy. And this is the first time I've been sleeping alone since we got her (and her sister that we lost 2 years ago) I'm having a very difficult time adjusting to this. |

I am very sorry for your loss, Nancy. I lost my kitty, Cinderella, on Jan. 6. Even though I have 3 dogs and one more cat I still feel a void in my heart with Cindy gone. I hope you find joy in the memories you shared with your kitty. ![]()

| Nancy, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I know what it feels like. My very first cat's name was faith. She passed away when her kidneys failed. I still have her ashes. It creeps out my hubby, but she was the first and best cat I ever had.

Newest additions!Lisa (female) and Flower (male) Yeah, like I NEED more critters! These two littermates are so cute and easygoing. The dogs and our old cat accepted them right away.

Precious!Birdy, Those babies are darling! Wow..your cat is much more easy going than mine. They are really sweets cats, but not always. We are helping our friends foster 3 newborn kittens for the humane society. There was no Mama and have to be bottle fed, which is a challenge in itself because they get so upset when trying to latch on and just needing the mother's attention and contact. Our kitties are very curious and sniffing them, but they also hiss here and there. It's the typical response when there's a new pet in their space. I would love to keep one of the babies, but not sure my husband will go with the idea. Our daughter wants the littlest baby. They are so tiny and adorable, but they are a big job too. Michelle |
