Loopy! You actually got a TV in your room?! *boggle* There was only one TV in our house...And this was back when TV was FREE. There was no such thing as cable...just whatever your TV antennas and bunny ears could pick up.
Yes i did By then, most kids had a colour tv in their rooms, but i was so excited when i got that little black and white tv (and it was really quite small!) I had to adjust the aerial constantly to get a half decent picture!

Remember trick or treating and getting home made donuts, apples and you could eat anything in your bag?

JFK's assassination. Found out right after class, I was in 4th grade, and ran back to school to tell my teacher. She cried. 4 days of TV coverage on all channels.

The moon walk. I sat up all night to see that!

Oh dear, Loopy Lou! You mentioned computers for the first time! I was at a university on the West Coast and had to type up my first report on one of the old Main Frame computers. Only I didn't know what it was! It was late at night and the computer lab was still open but I was the only one there. I had never seen a computer before but the assignment was to write the report and print it out so I finally got it written on that typewriter-thing and went to print it, only how? I saw a button on the side marked"print" so I pushed it and paper started flying out of a little slot like frizzbees all over the floor! They just wouldn't stop!! I panicked until I read a paper sign someone had taped to the wall bu those 4 big refrigerator-looking things. "If it won't stop, pull the plug." What plug? Oh, I saw it on the wall over there. I went over and pulled it and the thing stopped. I picked up my papers off the floor and left. The next day in class the teacher was very upset. "Someone has pulled the plug on the entire mainframe sustem for the university's Psychology department and all the professor's work is gone! Who did that?" I just sat there and couldn't figure out what he was talking about. Years later I wondered, was it me? Well, I graduated anyway. End of story.

I was only 2 and 1/2 when JFK was shot. However, I still have fragments of memories of his funeral on TV. I guess it was because it was so dramatic and I am sure everyone was very emotional at the time.

I still remember being in the living room watching the riderless horse in the funeral prosession. I have a very good memory of many things in my early life, but this had to be one of the earliest.

Hey Buckeye- I remember the riderless horse too...very profound, I also remember that my grandmother died that same time and there were no flowers available for her funeral.

I remember the day Walt Disney died. We had a teletype at our school, my brother was the first to see it come over the wire and everyone thought he was crazy.

1971 oil embargo. Daddy owned a Texaco and I worked there as a gas jockey and gopher (go for this and go for that) We has people lined up for blocks just to get $2 worth of gas. We also had received plenty of "gifts" from loyal customers, from porterhouse steaks to liquor and chocolates. That was a wild summer.

Hey Birdy - you need to explain what a 'gas jockey' is to our younger members. They probably don't remember someone filling your tank for you.

Paradise - wow, no flowers available!

LOL Back in the day....before 1975, gas stations were full service. You were not allowed to touch a gas pump unless you worked there.
Full Service with each fill up
  1. Filled the gas tank
  2. Washed the windshield
  3. Checked the oil/transmission fluid/radiator/belts & hoses
  4. Checked the tire pressure
  5. Washed the rear window
  6. Thanked the customer and gave S&H Green Stamps

I pumped a lot of gas, changed countless tires, tune ups/ oil/transmission fluid changes, water pumps...

I feel really young reading these.... I would have loved to have seen the moon landing on the telly. It would have been so exciting! I think the moon landing was in '69 (someone correct me if i'm wrong here!), so i wouldn't have been born for another 17 years!

Chatterbox - i found that story about the computer hilarious! It seems strange now that it's so easy for me to do anything on the computer now, when to begin with i was staring with a blank expression at a screen - Probably blank also, as i'd do something to mess it up!

I remember being allowed to stay home from school to watch the landing. Unfortunately I also remembered the rocket that didin't make it off the launch pad...I think it made the landing even more monumental. I remember holding my breath, scanning the water for the splash downs, the cracking open of the door and a human being emerging alive to tell about it. It was amazing and profound. It did kinda blow my whole man-in-the-moon / cream cheese theory though...
