Strange phobias? Let's hear them!

A phobia is an irrational fear, usually of innoculous objects :P

I'm scared of sticky things. Cellotape, plasters (band-aids), cling film when it clings to me... It makes me panic. Nurse looked at me funny when i went for my swine flu jab and jumped up and said "no, i don't want a plaster!"

Sooooo... lets hear yours. I want to see if anyone has a dafter phobia than mine :P

A friend of my wife is petrified of mushrooms. Like deathly afraid. We were at a work function having dinner and they served mushroom soup... she started shaking and had to run off as we moved the soup off of her plate.

One time her boyfriend (at the time) placed mushrooms all over the floor surrounding her bed, while she was sleeping. After he left for work she stepped on one, looked down, freaked out and jumped back on the bed. She couldn't leave the room. After some panicked phone calls someone came over, let themselves in and removed the mushrooms so she could get up.

Stryofoam!!!!! AHHH!!!! its so gross, the noise, the feel. how it gets staticy and then sticks to you.how it looks, why people think its okay to microwave, when in reality, if its heated or burned it realses cyanide.

I can't handle it. I have burst out crying and panicking once when Chad unwrapped a lamp he bought, and it had all those syrofoam packs, that when broken, left small sticky balls all over the floor. I walked in looked down adn freaked. Then I noticed that they were on me and I creid so hard and had to rip my pants and socks off to make sure they were all off.

FEET!!! i cant look at them, or touch them. Putting socks or shoes on is very difficult when you are doing it with the tips of your fingers. I can't even watch a shoe advertisement. AND my daughter has exactly the same phobia WE HATE FEET!!

I have the usual spiders, mouse, and crawlies as well.

I love snakes Mice i can handles, and i've even held a death head cockroach before (although admittedly, i wouldn't want to repeat that!)

My dad and my brother hate styrofoam. They said they can't stand the noise it makes when you're taking it out of a box or something. My family think that my phobia is funny - my brother chases me around with a bit of cellotape all scrunched up sometimes, to see me squeal and run away I've mastered the art of wrapping xmas presents without ever touching the sticky side of the tape!

Chris - mushrooms? I've never heard that one before! Also, it was pretty mean of her ex-boyfriend to do that

I am also afraid of clowns (thank you Pennywise ) But my biggest phobia is a simple gardening contraption called a lawn mower. I have an abject aversion to lawnmowers - when I hear them I actually feel sick and start to sweat. Oh... you should see me in the summertime! Pfft... and here I am living in the proverbial Garden of England!

Can you imagine what my worst nightmare would be? Being chased by Pennywise with a lawnmower :o Shudders even thinking about it! ...and now, I have really bad images going on in my head. :S

Furbies?? I'll have to look that one up. PHOBIAS:
Large stray dogs. I used to walk in my neighborhood with my dog, she is a Shetland sheepdog (best dog on the planet). One day a stray pit presented himself to us, and I had to run with her in my arms to a house and pound on the door (HE was aggressive). My son came and picked us up, baseball bat in hand. Quit taking my dog, then another stray pit came after me. I go to the Gym now. So there is my phobia, stray dogs, particularly pits. Not too fond of spiders either. Most are harmless, except my husband was bit by a brown recluse on the hip and had to have a small chunk of hip removed. Last phobia; job hunting!

Oh - forgot to add cosmetic ladies at Macy's!! (with all due respect) Yesterday I went to spend a gift card, and I thought they were going to tackle me, do a choke hold, and make a sale against my will! Wow! everytime I got within 10 feet there they were!

wow, lol, hands down you guys beat me. The only phobia i relaly have are of spiders... its not unusual by all means.. but its a v bad one. Its so bad that I probably spend an hour before bedtime looking around the room and moving things to check that there are none around..... this is becuase (and i guess the only unusual part about it) im deathly afraid of one crawling on me while asleep... or waking up with one on my face.....

gigi, Oh, that's one phobia I forgot. Cosmetic and perfume sales ladies. When I worked in NY we had Saks right across the street. (Spent way too many lunch hours there). Everywere on the first floor there was a sale lady spraying perfume at you. I literally would run away from them holding my hand up in the air. Code for "Stop!". Because of allergies they now spray on little card sticks and encourage you to smell.

And beware of cosmetic ladies, painted like white clowns wanting to give you a make over! This is a long one but hysterical.

OMG. lol. I do the same search mission on occasion before bedtime for spiders. Kinda died down since my husbands bite, but it's time to move the bed and clean behind where they love to hang out. Okay I'm scarin' myself here!

Cinnabar, yeah the perfume ladies are worse than the cosmetic ladies. They ask if they can help me find something, and I say, no just sniffin' all by myself. No help with that!

That is so true! It's like a staple food, even in Northern Ireland lol. I'm pretty sure they're in everything!

Hi All,

My phobia is a snake phobia. I am so, so, so terrified about them that even the word makes me feel horrified. Sad, I know!!! Can't look at a pic of snake - any where (on tv or internet, in book, magazine or any else which have a pic of a snake on it) without having the fear that the snake would come alive and attack me and kill me!!!

One evening, I was on my computer and I closed my eyes for a few seonds - and while I had my eyes closed I saw a snake - I visualised it! I quickly openned them again and to my great relief I realised I only visualised it and that there wasn't any snakes near me at all. I must admit that I took me a long time to fall asleep that night cause was scared I'd see the snake agan wihen I closed my eyes!!! I'm hoping that I never have that happen to me again!!! It was very terriflying!!!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT POST AN PICS OF SNAKES ON HERE PLEASE!!! IT WILL TERRIFY ME OUT OF MY WITS!!!

Susan

Miss Choccy

I despise snakes.
I despise rats.

However, I don't consider either of those phobias.

Everyone should despise snakes and rats. They are despicable.
