What kind of parents are out there!!!!

New neighbors move in next door a little over a month ago. I've only talked to them twice and the second time the mom was too busy texting to talk to me so I spent the time talking to her 2 and 4 year old kids.

Around 7:30 I had a knock at the door. It was a 14 year old boy who was baby sitting next door. One of the kids was probably 10 and the other around 7 that he was babysitting. One of the two boys is my neighbors son but I don't know which one, I've never met him. I don't know where the two younger ones were, wish I would have asked him now.

The boy wanted to know what time it was. I told him. He said that his parents went to a party and were to be home at 8. These were his words though - "They usually go out to a bar and lie about what time they'll be home." He wanted to know if they could come back over and see what time it was later if they weren't home yet. I told them that was fine and I'd leave the light on for them.

Around an hour later they came back and knocked on the door wanting to know what time it was. I told them and the youngest wanted to know if he could use the phone to call his aunt to come and get them, because they didn't have a phone next door!!!!

I got the phone and let them call. I asked if they wanted to stay at my place until their aunt came but they said no. I know the youngest wanted to stay here from the look on his face but he didn't say anything.

Now what kind of parent leaves their kids at home alone with no phone???? What if they needed to call 911 if something happened???? I told them to come back over if they needed anything or if something happened.

I wonder if they've got electricty in the house or if they are over there walking around with flashlights???? Hopefully they'll have heat in the winter or the kids might come over here freezing wanting to know if they can come in the house for a while and get warm???? Hopefully they've got water and food over there!

Their aunt must have came and got them because it's been about 2 hours now and they haven't came back. I would go over and check on them but I don't like to go outside at night. I live out in the country and I don't want to end up having a seizure and wind up in the middle of someone's corn field half a mile away.

I know when I was little my parents never did anything like that. There were no cell phones but they always made sure that there was a number that could be called to get ahold of them or give me someone elses number to call if I wasn't able to get ahold of my parents. Even when I was younger and baby sat there were no cell phones but the parents of the kids always did the same thing too.

Here I was hoping I was going to get a neighbor who I could hang around with, but I guess not. Maybe I should hang around with her though just to make sure her kids are ok!!!!

What kind of parents are these!!!!!

The kids said there weren't either at the house and that's why they came over to mine to see what time it was and to use my phone.

And if I remember right one of the kids who was being baby sat has a medical condition, I don't know what it is though. What if that kid has to take medicine? With no clock then when do they know when to give it to him???

It would be a good idea to get a notarized letter that lists permission to treat those kids during an emergency. It would be a good idea to have the parents provide names, addresses and phone numbers of all the kids' physicians for an emergency situation. It should list allergies to specific drugs. And, most important, get parents to give a xerox copy of any insurance cards if they cover the kids.
Those kids may have a serious emergency someday and your nearby convenient house is a way to receive comfort and help. The older kid may return the favor someday.
