Thumbs up This is for the women.

On the 24th of May I am going in for an ablation to see if it will stop my seizures. This is the newest form. The doctors go into your uterous (please exuse spelling) and take out the lining with hot water. It takes 15 minutes. Then if you want to you can get a UTI put in. This should decrease your seizure activity during your period. Well with the UTI you won't have a period any more. And this is only if you don't want any children any more. You can look it up on line, but make sure you look it up under the one done by water. I go home the same day. And if there are any Cysts or anything this will take care of it. My epileptologist has been talking to me about this for a long time now. Look it up ladies and tell me what you think. It is suppose to help my seizures durring that nasty time of the month. Teresa

well that's one uti lol. It's for women who don't want to have children any more. IUD I mean. lol sorry. No it does not put you in to early m. I am already there. It takes all lining out and there is a 50% chance of stopping your period all together. The IUD will take care of the other 50 percent. The Doctors told me it does not mess with your hormones. That's why I did it. This IUD is really low on hormones. Almost nothing. I can not take the pill.By the way that was a really good question.

That sounds like a really good alternative for having your tubes tied as well. this way you are still getting the hormones. and I am assuming that if you still end up getting your period there is still a slim chance of getting pregnant?

Yes, because they are burning out your lining with hot water. I really hope this works. It's called endometrios ablation. Google it. It will answer all your questions and show you how it's done.

Last week at my yearly exam the dr mentioned the ablation procedure for my painful, heavy periods. He also uses this new technique and said its so much easier then the old way. It takes about 20 mins total to perform it, but since there's local anesthesia involved the whole process will take longer.

I asked if it worked as contraception and he said it does not and that even if it stops your period all together, you still ovulate and can conceive during that time. Not something I need to worry about since hubs has been neutered..lol.

I'm still undecided. Of the 2 ladies I know that have had this done, both ended up having hysterectomys less then a year later.

Good luck and I hope it helps with your seizures.

Wow... let us know how it goes. Sounds a lot less drastic than a hysterectomy.

Hey stilldancing. I looked for the "thank you" button on your post, but there wasn't one. Consider yourself thanked!

The IUD should stop from any periods. And from getting pregnant. And it's a lot less invasive. All the thanks are gone. Wierd!

No, there is no certain age. And there are dicussions about it. After the ablation there is a 50% chance of the period even comming back. Some women never have a period after it is done. But with the IUD it reduces it even more. I have very long heavy periods that really affect my seizures. So my doctors said that my chances of me having a period are almost none. My OBGYN is the director at Harborview for all OB's and leader of my team.

I had an endometrial ablation done back in 2003 because of heavy, painful periods that would last for 10-14 days. It stopped the painful menstrual periods for good, thankfully, but the seizures are still coming around once in a while for me.

Good luck to you!

So yours was by hot water? The reason I'm getting it is both heavy periods and seizures. I hope it works as well for me as it has for you. Somebody I know got one and I recieved something in the mail about it through a medical sight. And the IUD is to help me insure it. I love your picture Cint. And I am glad to hear some positive feedback. Tell me, how was your recovery time.

I've heard that the cysts on the uterus eventually shrink when menopause happens. I thought about this procedure, but hesitate to have it done if things take care of themselves. My tubes are tied.

With water it works with cysts. Mine are benighn. If it was done the old way it would not work.
