Articles Concerning Thinking Troubles in Kids EpilepsyAt the moment, my comment is the only one on that ABC News article. Also, at the moment, there are currently 4 articles listed on the topix.net Epilepsy Wire about this same story concerning children with epilepsy. Just in case the links become no longer available through the Epilepsy Wire, here are the weblinks and titles to those 4 stories... http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/160542.php Children With Newly Diagnosed Epilepsy At Risk For Cognitive Problems http://www.kvoa.com/global/story.asp?s=10923353 Experts urge cognitive testing of kids with epilepsy http://www.postchronicle.com/news/he....shtml?ref=rss First Seizure May Fuel Thinking Trouble In Kids http://www.medilexicon.com/medicalne...?newsid=160542 Children With Newly Diagnosed Epilepsy At Risk For Cognitive Problems In order to avoid any copyright violations of any of these articles, I don’t want to copy and paste the entire articles on this posting. So everyone will need to go to these websites in order to read over the articles themselves. However, I will share with everyone what I said in the comment I posted on the ABC News article, just in case if the entire article ends up disappearing from that website. This is what I said in my comment... -Quote: "...showed cognitive difficulties at or near the time of the seizure..." Uh, depending upon which specific type of seizure any person has, no matter what the person's age is, there will be "cognitive difficulties at or near the time of the seizure". There's a medically known names for it that's been around for numerous years, called 'pre-ictal confusion' and 'post-ictal confusion'. -Quote "...who took anti-seizure drugs had difficulties in processing speed, language, verbal memory, and learning..." It's quite common for a person to experience what are called "side effects" whenever an individual starts taking medications and when the medication dosage amount has been increased, when the medication has been prescribed by the patient's doctor. And, it might take up to 6 to 8 weeks for the "side effects" to fade away. -Quote "there is a window early in epilepsy for intervention to avoid hurting a child's performance at school." So true. And that "window" has been "open" for a very, very long time. It's just a matter of getting individuals to be on "both sides of the window at the same time" in order for people to become Aware, to Communicate, to Support, and to Understand even just the basics about seizures and epilepsy. Ever wonder how many studies and clinical trials have been "repeated"? And how much longer is it going to take to make people aware and up-to-date about Epilepsy through the national media?
