Drug Interactions

Found a pretty good site to check for interactions:
http://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.html

Click the "I Agree" and in the blank box, type in your first drug, if you want another, just type it in the blank box, (I added a total of six meds). Then click "Check Interactions" and it will give you some information.

Just wanted to mention that you can also check for "over the counter" interactions with prescribed meds as well. Example, you could select Dilantin, Benadryl, Novahistine, etc. As always "CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR FIRST", but I noticed a few threads about over the counter med reactions, and this could possibly give insight on what a few people asked about.

Don't assume that drugs are the answer to your health problems. Heart disease is NOT a Lipitor deficiency but the result of your lifestyle interacting with your genes.

Learn to ask the question "why?" - and search for the answers. Dealing with lifestyle and environmental factors (the basis of UltraWellness) almost always works better for
chronic illnesses. Drugs are there as a backup only if needed.

Here's another good link that not only checks interactions with prescription drugs, but herbs and supplements as well.

I have also visited the web site that KAM noted. It even notes the timing of different medications or supplements. For example, I take calcium to counter the side effects of dilantin. I also need synthroid for hypothyroid. These two do not cause harmful interactions, however the calcium bind to the synthroid and interfere with absorption. My neurologist who has a complete list of my meds never noted this interaction.

A great site to visit for everyone taking more than one med or supplement. It even showed me how grapefruit juice can impact some of my meds.

allergic reactions.....?

It has been months since I have been here, luckily my reaction to Lamictal was short lived. I got a rash but not "the rash".....
I am still on Dilantin, Keppra, Clobazam, the benzo and a fairly low dose of Vimpat. I am a new person. I have had very little seizure activity and I thank g-d hourly.
What I have noticed is a reaction to Cipro, an antibiotic which I had taken before. I wonder if there was some interaction w/ the Vimpat? Also, I have heard that Sulfa allergic people should not take Lamictal.
I don't know...... I feel like a new person. The doctor would like me to wean the benzo but not if the anxiety is worse than the fact that I might feel somewhat
medicated.... Actually I feel ok, perhaps a bit more tired than others but I make sure that I sleep more. That's all. It seems that trying to wean any drug has caused nothing but disaster.
Vimpat is the drug I requested of a local neurologist who said "it won't help you, NOPE", interesting? Pathetic? If it didn't help I would have stopped taking it.
Who knows our brains better than we do? We have to live with them.....
