[Research] Flu Shots and Febrile Seizures in Kids

A very small number of kids have gotten febrile seizures within 24 hours of receiving the flu shot.

The seizures all happened within 24 hours after the Fluzone vaccine was administered, and all children recovered with no evidence of lasting harm. The seizure cases "have primarily been seen" in babies and toddlers under two years of age, said the FDA in a published release. The government is now investigating whether the vaccine caused the seizures.

While the numbers are statistically significant, they should NOT stop anyone from getting flu shot. Most febrile seizures are one-time events, and the vast majority of them are caused by non-vaccine-related fevers.

Well, that's terrible! In some countries they just don't take babies out much for the first 6 months. And they don't vaccinate for some things until the baby is older. But I say, if the parents come home with flu germs all over them, it's the same as the baby going to work with them!

I wonder if we will ever figure out the "why" of the seizures and fix it???

The risk of dying from the flu is still greater than the risk of having a seizure.....
