If you use diastat-

how long into the seizure do you use it?

(asking for my son, Dr's are giving us 3 different answers)

That answer for us was if the seizure wasn't resolved after 5-7 minutes depending on the severity, meaning did it look like it was going into status. Our epileptologist was very adamant that we use it sparingly, and we used it sparingly, however because Rachel's seizure were so severe and did go into status so often his fear was she would become unrescuable if it were used too frequently.

What are your doctors saying. Personally, I would go with what the specialist says.

Our Dr. had gave it to us at our sons 15 minute seizure last year, since then hes had us using it at 5 minutes. I was just wondering as last time we went to the ER, they told us we should never use it before 10 as it can cause the patient to become "immune" to it over time and it won't work when needed. The neurologist on call told us we should be giving it at 3 minutes since hes gone to 15 before..

I think were going to stick to 5 minutes, however.. I just wondered what others do.

the diatstat has GREATLY improved my sons recovery after a seizure, before he would be totally knocked out/heavy sleep/unwakable for about 6 hrs, now hes at least moving around in 2 hrs and sitting up talking in 3, even if its still a sleepiness and soreness that comes over him.

Diastat

I dont have long seizures but I do have clustered seizure. If we are at home we use it after 3 or more seizures. If we are not (Like Yesterday) we use it as soon as we get home. It works great and unlike Adivan I'm not a zombie for the next 12-24 hours. It may not be the most comfortable stuff to use but as far as I'm concerned it's the best medicine out there of it's type;
not that I have tried them all, but probably most.
