Persistent dehydration inside some vital cells, in its extreme stages, will result in a number of disruptive conditions that have been labeled as different diseases – depending on the specialty of the “medical specialist” who first labels the problem. The initial stages of these health problems will begin by the loss of some of the most essential amino acids that get used up as detoxifying agents – antioxidants, when the person is not producing enough urine to get rid of the toxic waste of metabolism.

Since brain activity desperately depends on the presence of some of these amino acids, their depletive overuse will result in an inadequate presence of certain neurotransmitters – such as serotonin, tryptamine, melatonin and indolamine that are made from the amino acid tryptophan; or adrenaline, noradrenalin and dopamine that are made from the amino acid tyrosine.

thanks

Thanks guys for this information. I think my last set of 6 seizures were due to my being out all day at "Winterfest" with the boys (stressed out) and only drinking water and eating protein the entire day. I had forgotten to take my neurotransmitters the day before, and had just gotten off my period. Maybe I should start drinking Gatorade. We keep it here at the house... the boys drink it at wrestling practice.

I also did a lot of looking about sleep apnea, and the like. I bought some of those nasal strips and slept like a baby last night... even though the nasal strip fell off at some point.

Dr. Donna told me that the reason I'm having seizures is that I'm not getting enough Oxygen into my system. Bern says I breathe funny at night. If this is my only problem, maybe I can stop taking the meds and focus on breathing. ;) not yet though... I know.

I breathe funny too....Actually, I snore like a sawmill. :) My poor hubby. Actually, I snore so loud I sometimes wake myself up. :) ANd, my little brother has sleep apnea. Ya think there's a link?

Look into the Emergen-C product. It has quite a few mineral complexes without the sugar.
Rebecca likes the Tangerine flavor. It is easy to carry, because it is a small envelope and you can add it to cold water. I am a "nag" about water lately.

Also Whole Foods makes an Electrolyte Enhanced Water, without the sugar.

I was noticing Rebecca's breathing last night and it is curious. I also don't think she breathes correctly when working out. So at what point does that fact hit the brain?

Yes

I'm guessing when she gets an oxygen debt in the muscles (lactic acid build-up - soreness), the system is taxed for oxygen. I'm sure the body maintains oxygen to the brain as it's highest priority (so the muscles suffer first), so it's probably really hard if not impossible to guess/know when blood oxygen might be too low for the brain.

I'm just speculating here though. Perhaps someone else knows better.

so it's probably really hard if not impossible to guess/know when blood oxygen might be too low for the brain.

There is another part of Apnea. Not just low intake of oxygen but the build up of CO2 in the blood. This is where it gets bad. I suffer from this too.

When I had that knee replacement 2 years ago, my pulse-ox level would drop to 60% and less, but the CO2 levels were very high also. ( I don't know the range but judging from the concerned looks of the staff, it couldn't have been very good) They had to do arterial blood gasses 2-3 times a day. OMG does that ever hurt!

Well, ever since reading this thread, I've been using my Breathe Right strips. :) Hubby says I haven't been snoring. :) Yay!

ooooh I am going to get some for my hubby. Thanks for the info

I wasn't sure which thread to put this in but I found this to be interesting reading.

That sounds like the neurotransmitter balancing program that Stacy is currently doing.

Is this done through the neurofeedback or through blood work?

I used to be the same way........I've had a half dozen sleep tests. But I keep ripping the masks off my face. I can't handle having ANYTHING touching me. It creeps me out AND it hurts, too. It IS possible SOMETIMES to get rid of the sleep apnea. Mine was caused by being overweight......I dropped 100 pounds, and the apnea was gone. It's also possible to control it by getting the uvula (the funny looking thing that hangs down at the back of your throat) shaved......or trimmed off.

It's a separate program from the EEG neurofeedback. The program she is using tested her urine.

I know the last set of seizures I had were due to electrolytes being low. I had been at "Winterfest" all day the day prior (yelling at my kids) and all I ate was a sausage on a stick, and drank water all day. I had forgotten to take my neurotransmitters either that day or the day prior. I was also coming off my period.

Pulled this thread back up, because Jon's blood tests showed ALL his electrolytes were a little low (sodium, potassium, chloride & bicarbonate) and he has drastically lost seizure control.

I was surprised his potassium was low, because he gets a packet a day of Cytra-K, which is potassium (and I think bicarbonate).

As far as sodium, about a year ago (when he HAD seizure control), his sodium was a little high, so I had stopped adding salt to his food, figuring he was getting enough from the olives and mayo he was consuming every day (that's the only processed food in his diet).

Not sure why electrolytes are low -- he's on Keto diet, and meals are essentially the same as before, when they are normal. He had a touch of diarrhea about 2 weeks ago, but not extreme. Not exercising (too hot outside) and not going out in the heat much. He's supposed to drink 50 ounces of water a day, but sometimes hard to get it down him.

Does he take a magnesium supplement too? That's often a good idea with the keto diet, since it helps with potassium levels.

There's magnesium citrate in his vitamin/supplement capsules -- at his current dosage he gets 40 mg a daily, which is about 1/3 of his daily requirement.

Rebecca and I take between 400 - 800mg
400 mg being the RDA and on the low side from info that I have read.
40 mg might not be doing him much good.

Well, he is only on a half dose of his supplement right now, because we were tweaking his carb intake, but will be increasing that again gradually back up to regular dosage, at which point he'd be getting 80 a day plus what he gets in his food (he doesn't get whole grains now, except for flaxseed, but does eat a lot of avocado and green veggies and fish).

For his weight (44 lbs) and age (8 y o ), his RDA is 130 with no more than 110 from supplements, according to NIH. There is a danger of magnesium toxicity with higher levels from supplements.
