Warning on the webs future

"The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is proposing is to pull the plug on free speech, free thinking, truth telling, and personal decision making, where only industry-sponsored propaganda is allowed to flourish freely.

What a nightmare."

Quote :
A foundation populated by the giants of business, banking, government and military wants to “vet” websites and limit the spread of information that it says creates “conspiracy theories”.

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) says it is worried about the way the web has been “used to spread disinformation”. They want to introduce a new system that would give websites a label for trustworthiness or unreliability.

One “damaging conspiracy theory” they want to shut down is the notion that MMR vaccines are harmful. Of course, this “conspiracy theory” stems not from paranoid forum postings and misquoted blog entries, but from scientific research into the mercury based preservative thimerosal.

Thimerosal was developed by Eli Lilly, and Merck is the world’s largest supplier of the MMR triple jab -- and it is little wonder W3C considers such information to be “damaging” given that Eli Lilly and Merck are both paid up and approved members of the Consortium! If anyone should be labeled with an “unreliable” rating, it is the WC3.

Robin,
I got this information this morning too. It's unreal to me that a group can think that it can shut down the information river that belongs to the public through the web just because we all now have the access to "all" the information. The first thought across my mind in reading this was in regard to the book burning in Nazi Germany.

No offense to men, but it's really true that 'big brother is watching'. Ironically, so many theories in books are becoming dangerously real.

So, can we encrypt all of our messages into a secret code that only members can access in here?

Alivenwell,
Boy, that smacks of paranoia to me. I know that with today's technology, anybody can spy on anything or anyone. It's not going to keep my mouth shut.
Or maybe, you wanted the library section here encrypted to keep it safe for us?

I think people will see through any attempts at thought control.

yup! So true birdy..... a lot of americans are suffering now...Americans like me were born in freedom, we have a hard time even considering that it is possible for us to become as unfree - domestically - as many other nations.....Because we no longer learn much about our rights or our system of government - we scarcely recognise the checks and balances that the founders put in place, even as they are being systematically dismantled. beneath our very noses...... slowly

The web was born in 1969 at a time when so many technological advances and historical events took place. It is impossible to stop now that it has reached so many end users. It accesses all kinds of people, devices, networks and media.

Youtube is only part of that puzzle. This will prompt other technological advances that will replace Youtube as we previously knew it. If they're concerned about suppressing offensive material, then they have millions of sites and forms of media to find it.

Google and Youtube are undergoing a major reorganization. I would find it interesting to see how they manage that challenge. It looks like another historical jump for computer science.

Maybe we need a VPN- Virtual Private Network where we can express our frustrations.
