7 more days untill veeg

HI everyone. Sorry it's been probably a month since I last updated on Sasha. We have been passing the nasty virus around my house. Tag I'm it I now have Bronchitis. Joy. Well in the past month, Sasha has been fully weaned off Keppra and is now only on Topamax. She's been having zone outs just about everyday and last tuesday she had another seizure where she couldn't open her eyes.At least this time we were at home and not driving. We leave for San Diego next wednesday for Sasha'a video EEG and mri, and I'm both anxious and terrified. My husband won't get there until sometime friday (saturday at the latest). I'm trying to keep myself busey thinking of what to bring, but I don't even know where to start. Besides coloring books, crayons, and reading what do I bring? I've showed Sasha the hospital online, and thankfully she said " it looks nice. not so scary mama" this from a 3 1/2 yr old! Has anyone been through this with a young child and can let me know what else to bring? Thanks Renee

Hi Renee, I'd try to structure her activities for the hospital as close to what she does at home as possible.

Hope you feel better soon!

Don't forget her FAVORITE Teddy Bear
or Doll!

A couple of her favorite books; and take
her to the Dollar Store and let her pick
one of those Jumbo Coloring Books and
a Jumbo Crayons (keep the ones you have
at home) in case if they get lost at the
Hospital or left behind - you won't miss
it and picking up some Books there for
her to look at will also do (Dollar Tree
often have a 3-4 pack for $1.00).

I also saw some talking books at Dollar
Tree for $1.00 and I know they work
because I've seen little kids sit on the
floor listening to them, so that's one
option there that if they have any, grab
it because it would keep her busy.

And - SURPRISING her, if it's a long
stay at the Hospital, by bringing her a
Stuffed Animal / Doll and gift wrapping
it with the bows and all; will make it
all fun for her after she's been there for
at least 3 days.

Bringing a bag and "ROTATING" toys
helps too, taking home this and bring
in that - each day will give her some-
thing to do and the Hospital will be
very happy; for you want it uncluttered
as possible and it keeps the boredom
away.

If she has a MP3 Player or a IPod that
she can listen to - she can bring that.

If you have LEAP FROG or a Work Book
Type Educational (small one), Bring one
each day and take the other one home.

NO SMALL OBJECTS
NO SHARP or POINTED OBJECTS
NO PUZZLES
NO PENS OR PENCILS PLEASE!

(I read this in a forum somewhere and
was looking for the thread and I can't
find it or which forum it was, because
I was going to link it for you - it was in
regarding to a 4 year old - I think)

I can't think or remember much of any-
thing, when my son had his EEG's, he
never was in the Hospital but for an
hour or less and that was years and
years ago, and the last time he ever had
an EEG was when he was 7, he's 23 now.

Thanks for the ideas.
Bernard--- thanks for the get well.
Brain--- we're actually going to be in hospital for 5 days, and on top of that we live 5 hours away from hospital. I found out that they have a library of sorts and some other in hospital activities so hopefully that will be enough to keep her busy. If not, I guess I can have my husband bring us more stuff when he comes since he's driving, and Sasha and I are flying. I have a princess throne that I'm going to put together for her and hide in the garage for when we get back.
I just don't know what to else to pack as far as clothing for Sasha. Will I be able to change her pull-up or should I bring her panties (we're mid potty training) that sort of stuff.

Call the HOSPITAL NOW and find out,
you may not need this.

One more prayer coming your way Renee!

E is so tough for us adults to understand, it has to be scary as heck for little ones. The next time I hug my grandkids (8 + 2), I will give them a little extra hug for Sasha.

When my son Alex had a video EEG done they just had me stay around. I brought him his favorite foods because the food was so bad. As long as she can stay on a normal diet that all helps. I also bring an extra pillow. A non allergenic comfy pillow because those wires are a pain in the buttox. lol Hugs , songs, and kisses. Teresa

Rebecca had a 24 hr video EEG, but I think it was only to make mom happy. I can't imagine 5 days. I slept in a chair. We brought videos on a laptop, and played games. There was no making it "just like home".

Food in the hospital was not nutritional. Rebecca got to choose it, and from my recollection it was mostly white.

Take pictures, they are fun to have later on.
