ALso started the GARD diet.. and....

Hi all. I have also started the Gard diet. I went to the grocery store last night just to pick up a few things to get started over hte next 3 days until I get more info on what I can eat.

I wrote down the list of all the stuff that cannot be in food and it was a nightmare finding cereal bars.. LOL.. there were none I could buy.. so if anyone knows any cereal bars I can get that are not expensive.. let me know

So... some of this may be wrong..

Fresh Salmon...(2 packages of it)

All Natural Newmans own Olive Oil and Vinegar salad dressing (the most expensive thing I bought, but will last a while and cannot eat veggies with nothing on lol)

Apples

Bananas (please tell me these are ok.. I know they have sodium in)
Avacado (PLEASE tell me these are OK)
Carrots

Would like to ask if brown rice is OK ? and potatoes ?

So far this morning I just ate an apple.

I really am not heavily into food...or a food freak .. so I dont think its going to be much of a problem with food .. HOWEVER>>>>>>

here is my weakness. coffee. I have cut down consideraby over the past week.. I dont even want to tell you how much I was drinking.. now I drink half a cup.. and tomorrow Im going to try none.

Also smoking.. (yessss so bad) these are my weaknesses ( I was never into junk food or anything .. I exercise.. its just these 2 things darn it ! lol.. so I have also cut down on this... and really want to stop because its expensive...

The thing is.. I think why I like coffee and smoking is becuase Im doing something with my hands...I have cut down though..

I dont feel coffee will be a problem from tomorrow since Ive only been on 1/2 a cup...

but I know the only way I can stop smoking is all out cold turkey .. thats the only way I did it in the past.. I quit for 6 months before...I have in total been smoking about 3 and a half years.

if it's available to you, there is a laser treatment that helps to quit smoking. one session is all you need. My mother smoked for 25 years, got this and couldnt even touch a cigarette after. It made her sick to her stomach from the taste.

here the treatment is $175 but well worth it. Or try talking to your doctor and see if he can prescribe something. (most stop smoking aids are covered by insurance, check it out. The laser can work for any addiction apparently)

Some of the foods you list are high glycemic index foods, so if you're trying to avoid those you should go easy. However, in general avoiding processed/preserved foods is the way to go, and it seems that you are doing that. Plus:

Bananas and potatoes are an excellent source of potassium. Avocados are high in fat, but it's the right kind of fat (like olive oil) and are also high in Vitamin C.

Good luck with the diet! Sometimes it's good to transition slowly, so your body and appetites can adjust.

Yes, I would not even consider a cereal bar. Too many additives. I guess you could make your own, but I would suggest GF oatmeal, cream of rice, an egg or cheeseless omelet, organic bacon, bananas are good but we had to cut them out as they are an extremely high glucose food. In fact tropical fruits are high. So if there is the possibility that you have a sugar imbalance, stay away for a while. Stay away from potatoes also.
Pears, and berries are good. Coconut yogurt, or goat yogurt over fruit
If there are signs of yeast / fungal issues, lay low on the refined grains, and fruits.
We love avocados here. On top of eggs, on sandwiches, guacomole, burgers etc.

We jumped feet first into making nutritional changes. Decided it was best not to miss those foods that were habit forming. Considered all the foods that we could eat, not what we couldn't.

Sorry this message is so scatterbrained... I think I am now hungry.

Yeah, it's

kind of amazing how much money you can save not smoking. Then turn around and put that into retirement funds, AND into the right foods you need, etc.
