anyone else get new symptoms arise ?

Hey I was wondering if those with epilepsy ever get new symptoms arise... whether regularly or not I would like to know.

The reason I am asking is due to my past 2/3 weeks. I have had as mentioned on another thread a feeling like im going to black out... (light headed, numb, naseas) and a few other things like not being able to hold my head. After a complex partial a few days ago as I was falling alseep I woke up gasping for breath like I had not breathed during it... maybe for a minute or two, not sure...I have been petrfied of getting in the shower.

2 nights ago I was hanging out with friends. I smoke cigarettes... I guess I lit one up and then zoned out becuase when I came around I went to light up a cigarette and noticed one in the ash-tray that had just gone down. I asked whose cigarette it was and my friend said it was mine. I was like huh thats weird, she said.. yeah.. I asked you if you were OK cause you looked spaced out.. and you said yeah.

Thi has concerned me because its new....I am seeing the Neurologist today hopefully it will be productive and not irritating.

My wife's seizure patterns have changed dramatically several times over the years. This includes changes to seizure types, frequency, intensity, post ictal recovery patterns, sensitivity to triggers, etc.

Your zone out sounds like an absence or complex partial seizure.

I've had something similar happen a while ago. I had a mild seizure while walking down the side-walk. I wasn't taking the bus but I could see that the bus stop was at least 15 feet ahead of me. When I came out of it I had already walked past the bus stop. The seizure felt too short to have walked that far & I had no recollection of going past it. It seemed freaky because I thought of it as new but my family told me that I'd blank out during a seizure & not be aware that I blanked out.

Yes, Vapour. I have done this a lot recently myself. I asked my husband the other night " How did a particular mark get on the wall?" He replied " You did it during a black out!" "Remember?" I did not remember it at all. He stated I was on the computer and then all of a sudden bam! I passed out and the chair hit the wall and then I came to and this all happened in 5 minutes. I didn't remember this at all. I used to remember my complex partial seizures and now I just don't remember them at all. It is scary. It sounds as if yours are changing. It does happen.

The breathing thing. This happens to me as well. It is apart of the complex partial. Don't get too freaked out because it does make it worse. I know it is hard because I tend to freak out still and make it worse. I try to tell myself it is only a seizure and I will come out of it and to calm down and this usually helps. Watch yourself though because if you stop breathing for awhile please seek help immediately!!!! As always, take care of yourself, Vapour.

Recently my partner's symptoms have changed a little, and he has noticed a new symptom -- fabricating memories. He distinctly recalls things that happened, but when he talks to the person involved, they say it didn't happen. Thankfully it's only small, nuisance-type things right now. I hope it doesn't get worse.

Does anyone else get false memories?

Yes, I do know what you are talking about here Occb. I get this when having simple partial seizures. It's not that noticeable but then it is when you think about it (It takes being around that person and knowing that person). My husband tends to notice too. He will tell me things take for example: "that didn't happen that way" or "now that didn't really happen did it" or "are you adding on more to the story here?" So yes, this is very true in FLE. This is all just fascinating to me. FLE is such a strange disorder with it's little quarks. Doctors just find it hard to believe what I tell them sometimes so I am certainly glad to find someone who sees what I experience.

P.S. Another to watch for is talking to self. And to all other who don't have FLE, I am not crazy or anything but this is a symptom I do believe in FLE. I have found myself doing this in the middle of a simple partial seizure.

hey all, thanks for the replies.

Well I made it through to Monday. I saw hte Neurologist and I am some-what relieved.

I told her about my symptoms of feeling like Im gonna black out.. with the hearing thing and such, and she thinks that these symptoms are a migraine aura. I am relieved to hear this becuase I thought it was the start of epilepsy getting worse possibly.

I did however forget to tell her about me zoning out and my cigarette had gone down... oopps... but its ok.

I am still relieved slightly. I do not get a migraine after these symptoms, but she still says its not that unusual to get a migraine aura followed by no migraine (and yeah I do get migraines.. just not very often)

So....we will see. I also know more about how to keep a seizure diary and she was pretty stoked I got into the study.

I have migraine auras, mine are not blacking out, but like seeing a bolt of lightning suspend in air, also seeing reflections around things, they all deffer.

Billy.
