Anyone experienced anything like this?

Hi everyone!

Okay, so I stopped taking my meds last week without advice (bad idea, i know). Last night I went to sleep normally, nothing out of the ordinary. I woke up outside my house with cuts and grazes all over my knees, legs and feet, with my feet all bloody and two toenails missing. My housemates were standing around me. They said I had typical seizure symptoms - twitchy, eyes wide open, unresponsive and making loud breathing noises.

The strange thing is during the 'seizure' I was running around and crawling on my knees on the pavement outside. I've never heard any symptoms like this for epilepsy. I wonder if it was sleepwalking/dreaming mixed with a seizure, because I had some kind of dream and it felt like I was still acting in it when I woke up. Or maybe it wasn't a seizure at all. Any ideas?

Walsh - Welcome to CWE

If it were me... I would be calling my doctor right now, or go talk to someone at Urgent Care. All of the above are a possibility.

Thanks Robin, I already went to the hospital ER to get my feet cleaned up and now i'm back on the same meds. I'll see my neurologist in a few weeks. I'm just confused as to what happened, as were the ER docs. I've read something about "cursive epilepsy" but that seems to only involve running in the ictal stage, whereas I was doing a lot more.

Oh good I am glad that you got cleaned up. That makes me feel better.
I have heard of running with E too, and it makes sense that the body would possibly do other movements too.

Do you keep a journal? Anything unusual about last night or yesterday... or the week?

Hi walsh, welcome to the forum.

I have seen people describe all sorts of strange behaviors during their complex partial seizures - from talking gibberish to stripping naked and walking around in public. It is possible to experience a wide range of autonomic behaviors.

Hi walsh! Welcome to CWE. The symptoms you mentioned can be a type of seizure. I've seen people who rubbed their fingers and others who rubbed their legs in ciruclar motions (not good if you're wearing a skirt at the time...). Seizures are not always the kind they show on TV.

Welcome Walsh!

I agree with the above comments. People have posted all types of behaviors from epilepsy. Some of it directly from the seizures and others as symptoms occuring before or after the seizure.

I am doing pretty good right now (knock on wood), but when I was still having tonic-clonics, I was getting very angry right before the seizures. So much so that I warned my family to be careful around me so that I didn't lash out at someone.

Best of luck to you getting back under control.

dear walsh,
what you had could be a complex partial seizure , but it could also be a sign of night terrors , though if you recall the dream it's not very likely. you should get a sleep analysis done. also DO NOT STOP YOUR MEDS !!!!!! Ask your mom and dad if you ever sleep walked or sleeptalked as a kid. it could be stress induced. Investigate this thoroughly !!!
