Anyone on Keppra + Oxcarbazepine?

That's my new drug combo as of this coming Thursday. Right now it's Depakote + Oxcarb, which is getting me nowhere, but I did have a brief positive response to Ox when I started it. So my neurologist wants to keep it in the mix. Also, I should note that I will be weaned off Depakote verrrrry slowly if it turns out I can tolerate the Keppra.

Have read all the scary stuff about Keppra. I do have a history of depression, so I'll be watchful of mood issues. My poor husband's eyes popped out of his head when I described Kepprage! But I am taking a positive, or at least neutral, point of view on it. Never know--it could be the one that gets me to a better place...

Either way, I feel sort of like a guinea pig in my own personal laboratory. Observations to come!

Ox & Keppra

Hello there. This is the first time I have replied to this forum but this is a subject I at least know a little about. This combo is the doctors third try at meds for what he has diagnosed as epilepsy in my case. I am 43 and had my first seizure this last March and 4-5 since then. I started on Zonisamide in April approx 8 wks after the first one as I thought the March seizure was an isolated episode. Because I had another in June the doc put me on ox as well. In November he prescribed the Keppra to go with the others, but I was very hesitant to add another as I felt the usual side effects with the most obvious being the dizziness and feeling "dumb". They say the Zonisamide is the most prevalent in that side effect. I have now been on the Ox/Keppra cocktail for almost 6 weeks now. I refuse to take the 6 Keppra pills totalling 3000mg as described. Probably not what my doc wants to hear, but too bad. I am taking 2 Ox (1200 mg) and 2 Keppra (1000 mg) now, no Zonisamide. I am not feeling the dizzy spells, nor am I unable to put sentences together as before. No seizures so far, but since they have been 8 weeks apart, who knows. As for the depression etc. I can say I am quite suseptable to crying at things I didn't find so sad before. As for huge mood spells and the suicidal thoughts, I haven't experienced that at all. It's almost like a heavier bout of premenstral symptoms vs something way out of the ordinary. I hope that helps. Oh, and a hello from a former Zoni, Phoenix and Bisbee.
